the EU is planning to use Russian money to fund weapons for Ukraine the EU froze nearly 200 billion pounds of Russian assets after moscow’s fullscale invasion in 2022 those assets have been earning profits worth several billion pounds a year which EU leaders have just agreed to send to Ukraine this sort of cash could boost Ukraine’s military budget by nearly 8% nearly all of it will fund weapons to use against Russia’s Invasion and the rest will help rebuild the country Russia has previously warned the West not to touch its SE assets or else face severe consequences

  14. Think of payback which won't be small. UK only just finished repaying Imperial Russian debts which they thought would never need to be re-paid.

  16. 1% return on a 200b worth of assets sounds really low.
    In reality it should be at least 4-6%, so it means….
    Someone is touching the money already

  26. Well the EU is only using the interest from the money, the roughly 200 billion will be kept safe and given back to russia when the sanctions stop

  28. Russian military paid bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing American and other allied service members during the war in Afghanistan. And Western governments did nothing. Overdue!
