[@IMMAlab] Have tried all day to stop seething over what happened this morning, but I can’t. It was yet another incident in a long litany of horrific experiences w/ drivers, acquired over 25 years of commuting by 🚲 But today’s was worse, because the driver’s unhinged aggression… 1/

    Remember stories like this, then ask yourself why there aren’t more children and just average people making everyday trips on 2 wheels.

    And then ask yourself if it’s really the end of the world that car traffic is just one way through Sandymount

  3. We desperately need driver training about cyclists?

    Any training for cyclists who constantly go through red lights at full speed etc and the other endless things they do wrong.

  5. Not defending the driver for their aggression, but surely you can’t think cycling 3 abreast is OK either. I am sorry but Cyclists should also realize the road is shared, we didn’t buy cars and paying taxes to drive with 10kph.

    The fact that infrastructure sucks, is not drivers nor cyclists fault, but each should show consideration for the other. And let me tell you, rarely I see consideration from cyclists these days , in fact they sometimes so obviously delay the traffic that even the most patient guy/gal can lose their temper.

  6. Wanna know what pisses me off? Grown adult Cyclists riding 2 abreast on the main road, blocking traffic , while there is a cycle lane empty beside them…

  8. Motorist is in the wrong, you can’t behave that way. But 3 abreast, come on now, that is just making it more awkward than it needs to be for other road users.

  11. I cycle everyday and fully agree with you.
    In busy traffic there’s no need to be cycling next to each other having a chat.

    The main culprits seem to be auld lads on their Saturday morning ride. Ready to lose the plot the second someone comes near them or beeps them

  12. I cycle a lot, with kids and on my own, in the centre of Dublin. I also drive . I find these ‘cycle buses’ annoying tbh. They take up too much space, only go as fast as the slowest cyclist and have more than a touch of self righteousness about them. I mean, loosing your temper with kids is wrong…but also, in my experience of cycling with kids most of not all motorists give kids space, but appreciate being given space too.

  16. There are bad people on both sides here, my experience in a car (Dublin City centre) is that a big percentage of cyclists are completely reckless. I know that the infrastructure is not great but that’s not the point.

    I was sitting at a red light in 2018 on the quays (first car in the queue) and waiting for a green light just at the junction where christ church is.

    I get the green light, start to drive and BANG two cyclists tried to break a red light coming down from christ church hill and completely smashed into my car. They flew over the bonnet one lay unconscious on the ground the other got up stumbling. Fire brigade, ambulance, police all came and practically closed the quays for about 20min. Thank god a few people got out of there cars and gave me there phone numbers so that I could call them as witnesses as it looked pretty bad for me understandably. The two guys ended up walking away from it although bruised.

    I had gotten the guys details from the police and I wanted them to pay for the damage to my car it was just over 1k worth of damage. They basically outright refused to pay anything and I went to seek legal advise and was told it would not be worth my time.

    As person who pays for road tax, petrol (2/3 if wich is tax), insurance etc and to have to foot a bill for two cyclists just smashing into me is hard to stomach.

    So in conclusion I think yous are all cunts.
