Sosnowsky's hogweed (Heracleum sosnowskyi, Dutch: Sosnowsky's berenklauw). It's a toxic, invasive species that can leave deep burns on the skin when exposed to sunlight even when touched through fabric. In the country where I come from, this plant is a species that is being eradicated as it is dangerous to people. Have you seen it in Belgium?

  1. Berenklauw? Yeah, seen it all over in the fields.
I didn’t know that it was invasive, thought it was native here.

  2. Sosnowsky’s berenklauw? No, doesn’t grow in Western Europe afaik. The closely related reuzenberenklauw does.

  3. Yes i see it every summer. Some grow in the garden but we cut it off whenever we can.

  4. De gewone berenklauw wordt al zo groot als die in Zuid-Limburg 🤣. Wil niet weten wat die gaat geven hier.

  5. No, only H. mantegazzanium which is also non-native, invasive and toxic.

  6. Giant hogweed, uh? I still have spots everywhere on my body from where I got burned the most badly. 12yo me mowed it and unknowingly got completely sprayed.

At least I had no swimming for 3 years.

  7. My neigbour has them in their garden to scare people.

  8. Remember my dad telling me that touching them could give me burn injurys… after that I was scared shitless by them 😅

  9. A neighbour of mine is the owner of a patch of land that used to be a small quarry. Part of it is overgrown with giant hogweed. When they’re flowering, they’re very visible from the street. No one ever does anything about it. My neighbour’s not a very nice man, and the local government doesn’t seem to care. Neither do the other neighbours. I’ve been destroying any hogweed having escaped from the quarry for years. It’s the proper thing to do.

  10. yes, Berenklauw, or grande berse. You see it on the sides of the highways, or on some riversides

  11. That bitch is everywhere, I had to mow somewhere once and it was covered in small ones. I found it out a few hours later, I was covered is small blisters. It burns like hell 😂
