Russia marked Victory Day celebrating Soviet Union’s victory in World War II as the country remains at war in Ukraine. There were annual celebrations across Russia for the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in a conflict in which 27 million Soviet citizens died. President Vladimir Putin has long used the anniversary as a way of bolstering national pride and his own power by evoking Soviet glory. In a speech in Moscow’s Red Square, President Vladimir Putin praised his army fighting in Ukraine and accused “Western elites” of fomenting conflicts around the world. Putin warned his nuclear forces were “always” on alert and said Russia would not tolerate any Western threats. Palki Sharma brings you more.

  21. DID RUSSIA WIN WWII? yes, absolutely. 90% of the Nazi soldiers were killed fighting against the Russians. Germany's largest defeats happened in Russia, for example during Operation Bagration Russians killed a million German soldiers. The battles on Russian soil during WWII constituted the largest military confrontation in human history. They were characterized by unprecedented ferocity and wholesale destruction with immense loss of life. Indeed, Russians halted the advance of Germany in Europe and they halted the advance of Japan in Asia (Japan surrendered not because of the threat of more American nuclear attacks, but because the Russians were getting ready to invade the Japanese islands). Russians sacrificed far more toward victory than any nation. For example, while United States lost 192,000 soldiers fighting German forces and 100,000 fighting Japan, Russia lost 30 million Russians fighting German Nazis and several million more fighting Japanese imperial forces (10 million more Russians died of starvation after the war). But the saddest part of this war is the fact that Russian government officials begged England and United States to open up a second front in France to force Hitler to withdraw some of the 260 German divisions (4 million German soldiers) fighting in Russia. This would have saved millions of Russian lives. But, instead of helping the Russians, Franklin Roosevelt decided to protect English colonies in Africa by sending American forces to fight 2 German divisions commanded by Erwin Rommel (The Desert Fox) …Eventually, Allied forces did open a second front (You have seen the Hollywood movies glorifying D-Day, the day they finally open a second front) NOT to save Russians (Russians didn't need help anymore) but to stop the Russians from taking over all of Germany. Anyway, everybody in Europe knows Roosevelt and Churchill were secretly hoping Germany would destroy communist Russia. President Harry Truman said: "If we see that Germany is winning the war, we ought to help Russia; and if Russia is winning, we ought to help Germany, and in that way let them kill each other as much as possible."
