Unfortunately answers require a willingness to invest time and effort, in this case working on the complex web of global inequalities that leads people to feel this dangerous trip to the U.K. is their best choice.
But with the current govt hard work is, well, too much like hard work.
Much easier to wave the flag a bit and use naval power against unarmed civilians in sinking inflatables.
Thankfully there’s a sense of decency in the admiralty that’s not found in government at present.
I imagine they’ll not play along with any plans to turn people away or allow them to sink.

What other choices do we have ?
They won’t stop putting themselves at risk doing it
No shit, it’s another ‘feel good’ policy for the Tory base that’s completely impractical and won’t actually solve any problems but wins them points with people who don’t use their brains for much more than making their limbs move.
That’s why it’s been suggested several times already without actually being done and that’s why it was brought up immediately following all the partygate stuff coming out.
Considering asylum seekers are now allowed to work in nursing homes wouldn’t it just make more sense to recruit directly from the Calais camp?
I’m curious what Tory voters and other right wingers think the navy can actually do.
If your answer is “turn them round” then you’re not really thinking hard enough about the practical aspects.
And no, we can’t return them to France. Brexit put paid to that.
Nothing will stop this along as the Middle east and Africa is a shitty place to live they will always come here and the numbers will skyrocket when these places run out of water.
