  3. For authoritarians, sexually abusing a child is the highest high they chase. 

  4. Why did they support Roy Moore after it came out that he creeped on teens at the local mall? Why do they support 12 year olds and rape victims being forced to give birth?

    I suspect all of these questions have the same answer.

  6. Teens can have sex and get pregnant. They know this. You can’t abort the baby, so the only way to get good with god is to marry before it comes, regardless of how young the children are or how consensual the sex was.

  7. They are pro-life, except for women, people of color, and children born into poverty. Keep them uneducated and pregnant.

  10. This is not an excuse, but most of these guys are stubbornly holding onto the opinions of a bye gone age. I live in the Midwest and function along side this old culture that persists. In many ways some parts of rural America live in an old Protestant mindset we just don’t relate to.

    I.e. 1 out of 5 child marriages is deliberately legalizing child rape by an older man. Seems hard to justify.

    The reasons mentioned in the article for child marriage:

    1. It encourages abortion (abortion is illegal in Missouri).
    2. Since children younger than 18 can get pregnant, marriage must remain an option to force the child to stay with their partner legally (Wyoming)
    3. The child has a right to have two married parents under equal protection in Wyoming.
    4. West Va. state Sen. Mike Stuart was born to a 16 year old mother and he considers himself very lucky.

  22. Educated, single women are a threat to them!They younger a girl marries, the less educated she is. She is less likely to question her situation. She doesn’t recognize the red flags, the signs of abuse, tolerates misogynistic behavior and have children quickly. Then they are stuck. Leaving their husband means they are broke and have nowhere to go. Conservatives need women trapped.
