  1. Use glassdoor, ask friends in the industry, etc. For the IT industry there’s also some telegram groups. Personally I’ve never felt like there was gatekeeping in any way. I ask people all the time and they always tell me (and I tell them mine).

Not knowing exactly how much you’re worth is probably the number 1 mistake every job seeker makes. Even the ones who are not job seeking yet. You should not only know how much you’re worth right now, you should also know how much you’ll be worth in 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc. (Assuming you keep building on your experience and skills – another mistake a lot of people do is thinking they’re entitled to higher salaries strictly just by years of service).

I would be making 3 times less than what I’m making now if I hadn’t done my homework.

  2. I Would also very much like know about this actually!

  3. The salary really depends on the health of the company and the salary negotiation when hiring. For example in FX as a software developer you can get 40K – 80K (mid -senior level) gross depending on seniority, but you can also have another 10K+ in bonus plus extra benefits like free lunch, private healthcare for your family, provident fund etc.

  4. Would there be a demand for a site like glassdoor for cyprus market?

I was thinking about creating something like this tailored to the cypriot market. With key features like : work-life balance, employee benefits, interview process, remote work flexibility, job role specific insights.

I would start with a large survey distribution to collect info and launch.

If this was available would you go and input anonymously info about your company?

  5. Cyprus job offers don’t often include a salary, which is very annoying. And also unlawful since 2021.

In the EU employers must disclose the salary level or range for all jobs before interviews take place, either within the job description or via a different channel. Employers must not ask job applicants about their salary history during the application process. Doing so is also, unlawful.

It is also unlawful, and legally unenforceable, to prohibit the disclosing of your salary. Also an employer must disclose, upon request, the salary ranges for any similarly categorized jobs in their organization (pay transparency).

And I’d bet the number of companies operating in Cyprus doing all of this can be counted on one hand.

  6. The vast majority of salaries in Cyprus are 1k to like 2k.

You hear about foreign companies paying much more, but these aren’t for locals, they’re mostly for expats relocating.

Also most professionals working by themselves (lawyers, accountants, engineers etc) will declare a very low salary, but run most of their personal expenses through the company (food, car, computers etc) so that skews the official salaries also.
