Earlier it was reported that [**the sanctions spoil the plans of the Russian Federation to produce their own aircraft.**](https://ghall.com.ua/2024/04/10/sanktsii-portyat-plany-rossii-po-proizvodstvu-sobstvennyh-samoletov/)
It is still profitable for profiteers to break sanctions but it might be less of a problem if punishments for that were severe enough like imprisoning culprits or confiscating company or fining for the profit/sales of that entire year.
The logic of the article, which I have seen repeated in various places, is fundamentally flawed.
Companies like Texas Instruments and Analog Devices produce tens of billions (tens of thousand millions) of chips per year.
If you want one of these chips, you don’t simply walk in the front door and ask the friendly person standing at the cash register.
If you want to buy a huge number of chips on a regular basis, then maybe they will talk to you directly. But usually you buy from a middleman. And the middlemen buy and sell to other middlemen. And still, if you’re looking for less than 10000 chips, a lot of companies couldn’t be bothered to talk to you.
In theory, everyone who sells certain kinds of technology has a responsibility to verify that it is not going to certain end users, but how do you verify with certainty the end user of tens of billions of products every year when these products get passed around like pocket change by dealers all around the world?
It is certainly possible that XYZ company would sell a few hundred chips per year (0.0000001% of annual sales) to a hostile enemy, but, seriously, it makes no sense at all.
OTOH, any small-time crook or shady bisnessman can find a way to pick up a handful of chips here and there without drawing suspicion and turn a quick profit by selling them to a buyer who values “discretion”.
Globalisation and capitalism.
Why the fuck they don’t send there compromise componentes, like Trojan horses that will blow at any time!?
Seems like a good opportunity to seed “brains” into this supply chain that will crash these fucking planes as soon as they are airborne.
