Conservative minister resigns in anger over Covid fraud

  1. ‘A Conservative minister in the House of Lords has resigned attacking the government’s handling of fraudulent Covid business loans.
Lord Agnew of Oulton accused the Treasury of having “no interest in the consequences of fraud to our society”.’

  2. Country should have been up in arms about this when all these cases of outright corruption came up the first time.

Instead no one gave a shit until they started having parties without us.

Either way, good timing. The country needs a reminder of the level of corruption it’s voted into office.

  3. “a combination of arrogance, indolence and ignorance”

That’s a good general description of the Bullington set and the Tories as a whole.

  4. Total fraud loss across Government is [estimated at £29 billion a year](https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/fraud-and-error-in-the-benefit-system-financial-year-2020-to-2021-estimates#:~:text=This%20report%20provides%20estimates%20of,overpayments%20was%20%C2%A38.4%20billion)

But lets demonise the poor and working class as benefit fraudsters, that much less at [£7.6 billion and includes errors made on their behalf through overpayments](https://youtu.be/55_Xjpxr4Cg?t=67)

  5. This is misleading many people I think.

There are two issues regarding covid and fraud. The first is that perpetuated by the government, where friends could set up businesses and be given multi-million pound contracts to deliver sub-standard PPE at prices 10x the market rate. THIS resignation has NOTHING to do with that fraud.

Then there is the loans scheme, set up in very little time to keep businesses on their feet. While terrible that so much was lost through fraud here, it’s hard to see what else they could have done. More rigorous assessments would have inevitably meant many businesses folding while their application was still being assessed. That however, is what this chap is upset about.

  6. Part of me thinks boris has sent a group message on WhatsApp saying “anyone fancy resigning to help save “Big dog”, options available are ‘islamophobia’ or that you don’t like fraud”.

  7. I’m so glad we have a competent police force who will arrest these fraudsters and wont spend all their time abusing academics.

I’m so glad we have a well funded and efficient judicial system that can quickly prosecute these fraudsters.

Nope. The UK is a sanctuary for white collar crime. At this point should we just join the ride or be left behind or keep our morals?
