I’m living in UK now. Last year (around summer time) we were visiting our friend in Germany and bought a subscription with DB to travel. I remember paying 50 euro or so for that.
Our friend said that he’d cancel that subscription when we’re back to UK. So he did (but with some problems and negotiations with the bank).
Then, just a month ago I’ve got an email from Universum Inkasso that I owe them 130 euro 🙁
I haven’t payed anything yet, and that friend of mine just ignored me when I told him about the situation.
Have the collectors took/will take it to court? Can I just pay that debt as they suggest in the email and that will be it? Or will they find another way to get some more money from me?

I don’t speak German and I’m very confused with this situation, so I’ll be grateful for any advice from someone who had similar experience.

  1. >negotiations with the bank

That is not at all how you cancel subscriptions in Germany. There is a good chance they simply booked back the money and now DB wants their money. There is even a good chance the subscription is still running.

Contact DB, to see if the D-Ticket was properly cancelled. If not, cancel it and write off the money you (rightfully) own DB as a lesson for the future to not let others set up contracts for you that you not understand.

  2. …thats not how that works, you cant just stop paying to cancel a subscription

I would cancel it and pay as soon as possible, if you dont do that the money owed can quickly get more and more up into the thousands

  3. You should be able to just pay the debt as suggested in the email. And ensure that any subscriptions are canceled to avoid it in the future.

It won’t go to court and you won’t be in any trouble if you do that.
