Are we a nation of masochists? I saw a comment on here once where somebody was talking about people they know that have enough money to live comfortably but haven’t replaced their broken toaster in about two decades. This prompted countless people to tell similar stories of people they know who keep using battered to bits stuff or not replacing broken stuff and when they say “why don’t you get a new one?’, they reply “ah, sure, I’ll make do”.
Is it masochism or low self worth? Do people feel they’re not worthy of replacing something?
