  1. He and a number of homeless people died this winter in Paris, but of course, we’re alarmed just when it’s someone “decent”.

    People probably assumed he was a drunk or drugged person and that waking them would be an easy way to get assaulted.

    That’s unfortunate of course but when someone acts in an unusual way in big cities the assumption is generally that they are drugged or insane and should be ignored to avoid being assaulted verbally or otherwise and so ignoring them is often a self protection deal.
