Ukraine facing ‘difficult situation’ on Kharkiv front | DW News

in Ukraine thousands more civilians have fled Russia’s renewed ground offensive on the northeastern front keev has sent reinforcements to the border of the HEV region where there are intense battles with artillery and Mortal fire Russia says it has captured several Villages Ukraine’s military Chief admitted the situation is difficult but said his forces are doing everything to hold defensive lines and positions hundreds of residents of the Border area wait for their turn aass evacuation is underway in Ukraine’s khi region after Russian forces launched a surprise offensive on the northeastern front it was horrible we fac terrible shelling everything was exploding we didn’t understand what was going on the Ukrainian military says Fierce battles continue but Moscow already claims to have taken control of several villages in the Border region the situation is extremely difficult because the enemy has been conducting Mass shelling of the Town terrorizing the civilian population destroying the town they use artillery and multiple launch rocket systems there were 30 air strikes just in the last day there’s a lot of Destruction presid president zinski has also responded to the threat paused by Russia’s new offensive and announced the deployment of reinforcements to the emerging new front our forces must achieve maximum results to destroy our enemy everywhere today there were reports from our commanderin-chief Alexander tii we are strengthening our positions especially in the KH region by deploying additional forces the artillery is operating exactly as planned as Ukraine waits for more military aid from its allies to show up its defensive effort Russian forces are hoping to take advantage to make gains in the [Music] region for more on this let’s speak to Marina Miron from the war studies department at King’s College London hello Marina Ukraine is trying hard to fight back as Russia advances what’s your assessment of the situation hello Eddie well it’s very difficult to tell right now some speculations are that it is the the offensive the Russian offensive that one has been waiting for what we know so far is that the Russian forces from the north grouping managed to take um several villages in the harist and it looks like they’re moving towards W Chans or um in order to try to basically surround the city and to block the supplies from the Kens direction from the East so that is um one possible scenario what is going to happen here of course the situation is changing as we speak but we shouldn’t be forgetting that other directions are also important where the Russians are trying to advance namely around chibar uh near s um as well as around robotin in zapia so right now the situation is very complex and um some believe that um this is done in order to pull the Russia the Ukrainian forces away from donet from other directions so that the Russians can develop the Breakthrough round of Diva right as you see quite a complex situation isn’t it I mean you know there’s also some action happening in the har region where thousands of people have been evacuated from is Russia trying to take over the HCK region and to what end well I don’t think that at this point the Russians are actually trying to take it because they would need much more troops and they have not committed enough troops in order to hold the hariv region they also don’t have enough troops right now to storm wans and even L to storm the city of hariv as I said um most possibly they want to develop their offensive around AA and that’s where the Russians had a breakthrough in around otina we remember the news from just a week ago or so and so I think the the idea is to distract the Ukrainian forces knowing that the ukrainians are suffering from Manpower shortages in order to then exploit the direction and go towards kurov COV androv and the idea is to cut the Ukrainian forces into and get um to the rare of the W Lear and slovan chromator groupings of Ukrainian Armed Forces let let me get your thoughts on this the long delayed us Aid package is only now starting to reach the front lines but is Ukraine getting exactly what it needs to fend off Russia’s Advance well this is a good question is Ukraine indeed getting what it needs in order to stop the Russian offensive and we know that ATT camps have already reached Ukraine however the problem is Ukraine also needs artillery shells and as well as artillery systems Ukraine also needs air defenses and armored vehicles and these are all of the things that are that Ukraine is not getting at this ve very moment we don’t know when the f-16s are going to arrive and what impact they are going to have on the battlefield Dynamics so from my perspective the aid that Ukraine is going to rece receive is um a kind of a mismatch in terms of what Ukraine really needs and of course we have the problem with Manpower with capable Manpower in order to stop the Russians because the technology is not going to fill that Gap right Marina Miron from the war studies department at kin’s College London thank you very much for your insights thank you for having me

  1. Lucky you Russia did not give 24 hours notice to evacuate…sadly some country changed what is allowed in the war to a next level!

  2. Ukraine got over $200 billion of aid combined before the last round of $61 billion and Ukraine are still losing. Once that $61 billion are gone, that's it. Ukraine can stop having any delusions to taking back any of their territories. At this point, the US trying to keep its proxy war going, Russia is just going to keep taking territory for keeps as reparations.

  3. Elensky the puppet of the US/UK and the few other post-inperialist mentality countrie.. Elensky does all against its population.. in Europe really the people are supporting Russia more by each passing day! This war was started by "NATO" and Ukrainian population are hostage of their puppet government!! We in Europe will NOT fight in this WAR, we welocme URsula, Scholtz, Rutte, Biden etc to do so though

  4. I thought Western mainstream media said the Russians had no weapons and Zelensky and Boris Johnson and Wee little man Macron was besieging Moscow

  5. 1. It is not a surprise attack, russia always give prior notice to civilians to vacate.2. 10 villeges r already in Russian control.3. It is an response of Ukraine attack on Russian border area.4. Ukraine can not win this war so better to give up.

  6. Ukraine is facing difficult situation – that is if you put it mildly. Now Ukraine is forced to use strategic reserves, stretch thin their troops. Russia anytime can reach close enough to Kharkiv for their artillery. Then second biggest city in Ukraine can be made uninhabitable.

  7. Marina Miron; please sen your message and insights around, about the miss-match-aid and the lack of warriors, Get Nato to help Ucraine,. God bless you and protect you,.

  8. 'Technology cannot fill the manpower gap'. Absolutely the truest thing that the commentator said. Zelensky has done well but he has not done enough to put Ukraine onto a wartime economy. Unless Ukraine enforces a full emergency wartime economy, she will lose this war.

  9. easy situation if you negotiate, if not ukraine will become a failed state and another american anglo failed policy, but good for the weapon industry.

  10. No more money, what happened to the nearly 1 billion dollars that was spent on building border defences. It’s not there and is all in the pockets of the Kyiv and Tel Aviv oligarchs.

  11. 1:30 “Praizdent Zailinghsky has also responded to thratt paused by Rashiyas faurses”
Dude, I get that English isn’t your first language, but if you’re going to go big and report in the language, at least learn how to speak it!

  12. The reporters do not mention that Ukraine forces have been intensively shelling the neighbouring russian region of Belgorod the last few days.

  13. Students: Free Palestine!
Biden: No, no, not palestine. Ukraine. Say it with me Ukr…
    Students: FJB! FJB! FJB!
    Biden: Who's joe?

  14. The Pope suggested a white flag and it fell on def ears. Someone Remind Ukrainian leaders about that ASAP. Russia doesn't look like it will stop at kharkiv only. Cut the loses when there is a chance. Africa is watching 😊😊

  15. So, Ukraine is suffering with severe manpower shortages, coupled with decimated military equipment, yet pro-Ukr bots are talking about some sort of "victory" in this war. 😂😂

  16. Point attacks, even if expected can be hard on a defence. You cannot just throw forces into the defence by taking them from other places. They too could then be vulnerable to concentrated attacks. that is one strategy at play to de-stabilise the defenders. Some flexibility, some give, can introduce weakness in the attacking force which can later be exploited in counter attacks. Ukraine is a big country with big borders, and a big enemy on one (or two) of them. Ground forces take time to move. Missiles and shells (if you have them) need up to date target data. Also consider that a large amount of fire is coming from within Russia itself, and US 'rules of engagement' preclude using US manufactured weapons to retaliate. Ukraine is fighting with hands tied while Russia is performing total war.

  17. As long as western countries don't support round table negotiations, this war will continue and young people on both sides are on the receiving end. It is unfortunate.
