Israel awaits Hamas’s response to truce deal before sending delegation to Cairo • FRANCE 24

this is definitely the closest we’ve been to a deal in many many many months um you know we’ve seen a lot of uh renewed activity but then Things Fall Apart uh this is of course not the first trip by the CIA Chief uh to Cairo um but it does seem that this time around uh the sides have moved closer together uh having said that there’s still one outstanding issue that even yesterday in the messaging that was coming out of Jerusalem and the messaging uh from Hamas seemed to really highlight and that’s that you know Israel will not says it will not agree to an end to the war and Hamas is demanding that there be an end to the war that even perhaps the United States or other mediators guarantee that Israel will not restart the fighting after it gets all its hostages out of the Gaza Strip so that’s seems to be one of the main sticking points still even though the sides have come closer together on for example the issue of uh Palestinians that will be released in exchange for the hostages the number of hostages Israel’s military redeployment uh the return of gazin to Northern Gaza without any Israeli Security checks that is now part of this deal um but it still has some way to go and just despite hearing optimistic messages from the Egyptians um it has to be said that here in Jerusalem there’s still pessimism uh and concern about this deal and it is not seen uh as a sure thing and we’re really going to have to wait for uh Hamas to officially submit its written response Israel has not sent a delegation yet it says that it will only do so after it sees hamas’s written response so that supposed to come today

Talks to reach a Gaza truce were expected to resume Sunday after officials from the Hamas Islamist organisation and Israel publicly disagreed over demands to end their seven-month war. Israel has yet to send a delegation to Cairo as it awaits a written response from Hamas which is due Sunday, ABC Correspondent Jordana Miller told FRANCE 24, adding that the two parties are “the closest” that they’ve been to a deal in many months.

  1. In order to call something a war, there must be armies on both sides. Can we see anyone responding to Israel's attacks on the Palestinian side? Except for 1000 – 2000 desperate people who were given weapons.
