So I'm fortunate enough to live in desirable part of Richmond, and it's right on the entrance to the park. There is a station further down the road for these bikes but A) It's too small and B) people just don't bother using them. You can't drop them off inside the park so people go for the first building they see.

First World problems and all, I know.. but I pay a lot of money to live here and not only is it annoying, and an eye sore, they even overspill into the entrance way to the building. Am I being ridiculous or is this a fucking joke? Has anyone had similar experiences? Would Lime Bike give AF if I contacted them or is it best to try and speak to he Council?

Lime Bikes outside home in Richmond. Am I being uppity or is this ridiculous?

  1. Wahh Wahh there are bikes outside my building. Fucking hell.

  2. Babies in strollers, wheelchair users, all wholeheartedly will support any bylaws to minimize these.

  3. You are completely correct.

This is another example of how corrupt politicians are paid by companies to NOT know their duties.

The sidewalks are public commons to make walking easier for citizens and to provide a common place to meet and engage . What sidewalks are NOT supposed to be, is free parking lots for commercial rental companies, to appeal to the worst laziness of “consumers”.

It’s the tragedy of the commons, and the fobbing off of “negative externalities” as public costs to enable private gain – yet again. Because people are clueless and politicians corrupt.

  4. Are the bikes impeding you or others?

I have to walk between parked cars when crossing the road outside my house. The road system has been set up to enable drivers to park bumper to bumper all along my street. Councils should make the same provision to allow bikes to park.

  5. Nowhere in the camera shot do you show the pavement, and the gap between the bikes and the road, so it’s impossible to tell if there’s enough space to get a wheelchair / buggy down there or not.

The pavement is [pretty wide there though](https://maps.app.goo.gl/jP6V3NYpHt5o9Nuo8), so it may well be fine.

As you say, the underlying issue here is that bikes can’t be parked within Richmond Park. So they all park here. (Same issue as the Regents Park post earlier today).

Would make far more sense for Royal Parks to compromise and allow some parking of dockless bikes at specified locations in the park.

  6. Dunno what has happened but they have suddenly sprouted in Beckenham too. Found one in the woods in Beckenham Place Park today…

  7. Yeah, I work around Bank, you literally have to walk on the road itself because of these damn things.

  8. Yeah & a 3 bed in star & and garter, which I guess is the home you’re referring to, goes for £5.8million so my heart doesn’t bleed for your terrible inconvenience.

  9. Just ban the things. Force lime to create parking stations & fix the theft issue or get out of London. I’m tired of these things all over the place

  10. Yes, is ridicolous mate. These things are a cancer.

  11. It’s a small part of a plan. Made up in a room by people that have no idea what it’s like to live and walk the streets of today. Your ruling class thought it would be a good idea.. the same as migration and green energy. Forcing people to do things doesn’t work. 🤣

  12. I’m for hire bikes, but they should be docked, so should scooters. It’s a shitshow when they’re left lying around everywhere. I know not everyone leaves them in the stupidest places possible, but that what marks them out as being a pain in the arse and eminently antisocial.

  13. What is it like living in the Star and Garter then? Do you have one of the amazing views? I can only imagine..

  14. I’m new to the city and how Lime works here. My first ride I found a parking spot along a sidewalk where one would normally park their bike out of the way (but I didn’t take the bike lock bar). When I went to end my ride I was told that I could not park there and then noticed there are little Ps on the map for designated parking spots. When I rode over to the designated spot there were a dozen or so Lime bikes with many parked quite poorly. This must be a designated spot so people don’t park them wherever in the city.

  15. It helps a lot of people to get around, they wouldn’t be there if they weren’t getting good use. I work with the NHS sometimes I need to hire one to get between appointments if there’s a bus delay etc.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen them setup in a way that would stop pedestrian access. Besides the Local Authority parking inspectors would be all over it and fine them.

  16. This entire post was made so you could flex that you live in the Star and Garter. No one cares. We (people actually from Richmond) despise you all for your contribution to the area’s skyrocketing house prices and making vets homeless. Loser
