  1. Argentina went from one of the friendliest countries in Latin America for LGBTQ people to a country where LGBTQ people are set on fire

This is what happens when you vote for a president and a political party that demonizes LGBTQ people

  2. > The police did not immediately announce the motive behind the attack. However, according to a statement by the Argentine LGBT Federation, the attack on the two couples is “potentially one of the most abhorrent hate crimes in recent years.”

I’ll take “jumping to conclusions” for $1000, Alex.

  3. What a garbage dump of extreme political generalizations and pointlessly cruel jokes. Guess I’ll indulge and insert my own assertion: welcome to Reddit

  4. This is not what I meant by “hot lesbian action”.

  5. Wow. We’re under attack people. Hope we wake up to this shit

  6. My friend is dating girl from Buenos Aires. She says it’s just super dangerous (which is why she left), and she knows many people who were robbed at gunpoint or taken for ransom. Sad situation.

  7. Wait what?
    This is surreal.
I mean, why would you even do something like that?

  8. Probably won‘t be the last ones. Dangerous times for everybody not living the conservative way.

  9. I don’t know how reliable this newspaper is because I’m not from Argentina, so my awareness of newspapers from there is low.

A few comments about this whole event that do not give the whole picture whether it is or not an attack on LGBT people:

    >Y otra sobreviviente, Sofía Castro Riglos, que presenta quemaduras de segundo grado y requerirá al menos 15 días más de internación –por lo que el 26 de este mes cumplirá sus 50 años en una cama de hospital–, pudo declarar como testigo y afirmó que lo que ocurrió fue un ataque lesboodiante.

The neighbors did not see any indications in the man’s behavior that could indicate that this crime was motivated by hatred towards their orientation. And they provided possible motives

    >algunos vecinos de la pensión refieren que no había indicios previos ni comentarios que avalen esa circunstancia y que la cosa habría estallado por un motivo más prosaico:

    >Barrientos las habría increpado porque hacían demasiado ruido cada noche, y en el fragor de la discusión que pasó a los gritos les habría arrojado una botella con aguarrás o disolvente. En la escena, según fuentes policiales, había un tacho de pintura, un frasco de disolvente y trapos impregnados en el líquido altamente inflamable.

The newspaper itself also contains a fragment of what the culprit said, stating that this whole situation had no connection with the fact that these women were lesbians.

    >Él les dijo a los policías que lo custodian que tuvo una discusión, pero no refiere nada parecido a un odio hacia las víctimas porque fueran lesbianas”

So for now, most people commenting here should refrain from saying that it was an attack of LGBT hatred because it is not clear.

  10. When I was in Argentina I saw vendors sell LGBT merchandise on the street. The first LGBT friendly Pope is Argentinian. And Argentina was the first Latin American nation to legalize same sex marriage. It is a very progressive nation when it comes to LGBT issues, but that doesn’t mean every citizen feels the same way about it.

  11. Speaking as someone of the LGBTQ community and a US citizen, this is horrible, yes. Does it mean the government or the country is to blame? No. I’ve read through these comments. They don’t even know the guy’s motive, yet everyone is immediately jumping to the LGBTQ one and then it seems that always leads to the government. As if these leaders of the world have people on speed dial to do heinous crimes in certain groups. People tend to forget with their sheep mentality that there are other’s out there that actually think for themselves, and many of them have mental illnesses. That’s despite the fact that every other show you scroll through on any streaming service is about murder, rape, cults, violent crime, conspiracy to murder or rape, commit violent crimes cults ect. The guy obviously isn’t right in the head ffs, he lit 4 humans on fire. Let’s all jump to social media and talk about their sexuality though and what community they belonged to, instead of waiting to know the real details, like WHO they truly were as humans not based on WHAT they were.

  12. This so absolutely horrible!!!

Those poor women did not deserve anything but love and compassion !

I hope humanity can wake up from hell and stop hurting people based on church dogma and propaganda

  13. Police are unclear of the motive. The perpetrator should be tried on the facts and we don’t have them yet. Hate crime or not it’s an incredibly horrible thing to do.
