  1. How is Macron not mentioned anywhere in this article?

Is Europe seriously considering partnering with Russia… again?

    edit:

Russia trolls have made the comments a train wreck, spinning multiple anti-US narratives and brigading. The issue is France doing business with Russia. What US Republicans want is irrelevant to seeing the appropriate course.

  2. Just have them tell Senile Joe the French are Jewish and he’ll stop it in no time!

  3. > The lawmakers said exempting EDF from U.S. sanctions would allow it to purchase a subsidiary of a U.S. company that had been engaged in nuclear power projects with Rosatom in Hungary, Turkey and Egypt, projects that have been suspended for years due to sanctions.

So this is just the US trying to protect their own companies and screw over their competitors.

  4. All of you speaking about a subject you didn’t know about, nor even read about in this article, are why online discussion are sterile.

The subsidiary the French company EDF is willing to buy is the company that possess nuclear turbine that were until recently owned by a French company, Alstom. Alstom was bought after a sequence of sketchy manoeuver between Macron and General Electric (GE). This is currently under scrutiny from the National Financial Prosecution Office (PNF).

After GE acquired the company, it quickly started a plan to fire people.

So France lost a technological asset and workers (some suicided).

Now Macron understood he fucked up hard, and he’s trying to recover this asset. And the Republicans (Russia’s puppet), are trying to stop him.

    Why now ?

Because nuclear power is foreseen to be huge investment in the future because many emerging power are willing to acquire such low carbon power source. Who owns the existing assets can sell them to others, plain and simple.

Republicans are just trying to keep us from competing against corporate america. Because they only care about profits, not their ally.

Now if I see any european telling “oh this is why we need the US, the French are traitor” and other stupid nonsense, well be free to be slave to corporate america if you want, but I won’t pray a second for you when all of your technological assets, most talented people, will be bought buy shitload of money and taken away from you.

I can despise both Russia tyranny, and corporate america endless greediness.

  5. >Between 2015 and 2020, France delivered state-of-the-art military equipment to Russia. This equipment has enabled Vladimir Putin to modernise 1,000 tanks, fighter planes and combat helicopters, and could be used in the Ukrainian conflict.

France has along history of partnering with Russia to spite it’s “allies.”

  6. Why so Anti Russian but not Isreal over war? What’s the difference?

  7. >The lawmakers said exempting EDF from U.S. sanctions would allow it to purchase a subsidiary of a U.S. company that had been engaged in nuclear power projects with Rosatom in Hungary, Turkey and Egypt, projects that have been suspended for years due to sanctions.

I’m sure if France buys the subsidiary and America asks them not to work with Russia they will agree. Nothing to worry about. 😏

  8. It kind of proves the point that the assumption is America can & does tell Europe what to do

  9. So, France is ready to put boots on the ground against Russia AND work with them on nuclear power?

  10. Fuck the US and Fuck Russia. The US fucked us over with Alstom and Russia makes even worse cars than us.

  11. To be clear. They’re asking him not to waiver sanctions currently in place that would prevent this from happening.

    >Top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, **urged Biden to not waive sanctions on Russia**, saying it would allow French-owned Electricite de France, or EDF, to engage in nuclear power projects with Rosatom.

    >The sanctions, which Biden issued by executive order in 2021 and later amended, address national security threats posed by foreign activities of the Russian Federation.

    >”This waiver will result in more money in Putin’s coffers to fund his brutal war of aggression against Ukraine and suppression of democracy,” the lawmakers said in the letter, dated May 6. “We urge you to reject this proposal.”
