Ukraine losing ground in war with Russia

[Music] all right welcome back in today’s Spotlight exhausted outgunned and outmanned new concerns that Ukraine is losing ground to Russia Moscow pushing ahead with a ground offensive in the northeastern part of Ukraine and opening up a new front of this war and that push is coming as Russian President Vladimir Putin replaces his defense minister this is a rare cabinet shakeup as he begins his fifth term and at least 15 people also killed overnight with Russian officials saying that a Ukrainian Missile hit an apartment building in belgar I want to bring back my panel here so I have Amanda and Sarah and joining us now is ABC News National Security analyst defense and defense analyst Mick mroy and ABC News contributor and serus XM radio host Mike Muse gentlemen thank you for joining us Mick let’s start here with you Vladimir Putin again replacing his defense minister more than two years into this war and with Russia now appearing to have the upper hand why would he make that move there’s been some suggestion that you know Putin thinks about 5 10 20 years down the road he’s rarely living in the Here and Now so K first it’s important to point out he’s been there for 12 years he’s been the the minister of defense for 12 years and I think quite frankly a lot of people would have guessed that and and a lot of military analysts guessed that Russia would have taken Ukraine a long time ago uh and that obviously is not the case they’ve made gains recently but that’s because the lull and US security assistance which is going to be fixed we passed a national security supplement but they’re going to have to hold on for about a month for that to really have an impact on the battlefield and and Sarah Moscow is in the midst of its most significant border incursion since that war started do you think Ukraine’s allies might actually be considering the implications here that Russia could win this War I mean as uh Mick said you know now that this bill has been passed it was passed because people started to consider what would actually happen if Russia were to win this war if Russia were to take large swas of Ukrainian territory what would that really mean for the west and for Europe if might equals right in Europe once again um so I hope that mix Wright that they’ll see the results in about a month and Ukraine can start pushing back but I think those conversations become a lot more serious and I hope that the West uh has its own wake up and and loses some of this fatigue that we’re seeing in these Western Ally countries certainly and Mike I’d love to hear your thoughts on this again reminding everyone it was 61 billion doar worth of American aid but to both Mick and Sarah’s points it took a long time to come to that agreement and if we might not see the results here for a month could this be a little too little too late it’s exactly what micker is talking about and that is exactly how Russia is operating is is almost two school of thought position of strength versus position of weakness Russia is operating from a strength of of position of strength uh they recognize that Ukraine has been weakened by uh the polarization that we have in our Congress and whether or not Ukraine was going to receive the aid or to come in or not the aid is still in terms of whether we have not gotten into the hands Ukraine yet so what I see is Russia doing as a very military tactic spread the Ukrainian forces thin uh they’re already coming from a place of weakened position make them spread their forces out more to weaken them even more to present a better strong ground offensive into Ukraine really demoralizing the troops uh and really bringing this conflict to a close that sides more so on the side of Russia winning It ultimately at the end certainly and the implications of all of this are far-reaching Amanda I just love to get your take as how you’re now watching campaign season really start to get underway here in the United States and how you how this war could also take a prominent place in our American politics that’s right I think you’re going to see everyone talking about this but when your allies are busy in their own elections and their own economy it is tough for people to weigh in on what’s happening in Ukraine and I think this next month is really going to Define where are those lines does Putin really use this new lead leadership to reinvigorate the momentum he has or does zalinski hold off and get ready and prepare or when the resources are finally there and everyone’s going to be watching this next month because it will have implication on the election here today it certainly will all right Mick Amanda Sarah and Mike thank you all for being with us here today

As Moscow pushes ahead with a ground offensive, a new war front opens in Northeast Ukraine.

  1. Russiabots in the comments again. Good luck with the hospital windows, Shoigu. Wonder why they don‘t even mention his name at the beginning of the report. Typical mainstream media.

  2. This war was over the first day when Ukraine cut off the water going into Russia and bombed the Russians pipeline and kidnapped his people to fight live on TV and threw out the Orthodox monks this was never about Americans security it was about embezzling the grandkids inheritance and making the American people workers and taxpayers and people and grandkids slaves and using us as whores

  3. But Ukraine was on its way to moscow! You mean to tell me you lied and all those billions of usd for Ukraine was for nothing? What a shocker!

  4. Putin just appointed an economist as Minister of Defense, not good. Russia is hundreds of miles from where they were last year. They did the same thing last year, push, retreat, closer to Moscow.

  5. Ukraine has always been Russian territory. They have support in Ukrainian regions taken by Russia. Most Ukrainians don’t want to die for stupid wars started by NATO.

  6. Ukraine already lost about 20% of its territory to Russia as of last year, despite the billions in aid to Ukraine. New aid won't make any difference.

  7. No supporter of Russia but you guys really dont known how war works.
These arms which will go to Ukraine now, will be used 2-3 montha down the line.

  8. Military aid does not replace the need for more Ukranian manpower. Face it … Joe Biden and his DEI crew haven't explained what our strategy is in Ukraine. How is Ukraine going to win?

  9. You meam even after all those US resources were sent abroad?!? Who will pay more into this conflict now???!!

  10. Ukraine never had a chance. They never lost any aid during that lull. The reality is most of the money has gone to Ukrainian Oligarchs, Bureaucrats and Ukrainian Pensions. The Ukrainian Azov Brigade started this war by shelling the Russian speaking regions giving the Russians the reason they wanted to go in. Simply, Ukraine doesn't have the people or the resources necessary to win. We could spend a Trillion in Ukraine but you cannot overcome the numerical advantage the Russia has.

  11. Maybe if the US spends a few hundred billion dollars more it will somehow be enough. Why are we involved in this proxy war? Russia isn't 1930-40s Germany and there isn't any good reason for the US Government to be so afraid. Or is it just GREED? We can thank the warmongers in CONgress and that idiot Zelensky for this mess.

  12. You know we just have a useless government. The president probably doesn’t even know where the hell he’s at, without the kids and the shadow government that runs everything is incompetent.

  13. Biden getting ready to abandon Ukraine… Just like he abandoned Afghanistan to his now best friends the Taliban……

  14. I knew it and remember this chanell was basting about Ukraine winning but at the end the finnaly admit they loose

  15. THE USA MANIPULATED UKRAINE WAR ,😀🇮🇱🌎 HAHAHA 😀🇮🇱🌎THEY USED UKRAINE TO GET PUTIN , AND ALSO CHINA ,IN THAT WAY THEY PROTECT THE MAKKAH , AND FREEDOM TO HAVE RELIGIONS , SINCE CHINA CLOSED THE MOSQUES AND PUTIN IS FRIEND OF CHINA 😀🇮🇱🌎 HAHAHA 😀🇮🇱🌎 HAHAHA

  16. Democrats 2022- Ukraine is within months of winning the war with Russia.
Russia doesn’t have weaponry or soldiers.

Democrats 2023- Ukraine is losing give them $80 billion

  17. MAGAGOP wants to sell out to Russia. Total betrayal. Total turncoat. Must have heard the same promises from Putin 45 heard.

  18. A few kilometers gained during Republicans fiddling their thumbs. It takes a minute or two for equipment to get there. No worries except for RUSSIA of the RUSSIAN MILITARY SHAKE UP that ABC HAS NOT COVERED. ABC News – All hat. No cattle.

  19. I love how these dummies act shocked that Russia will win this. A basic understanding of math and numbers would have told them Ukraine had no chance to win war. Stop funding Ukraine!

  20. I don't believe Russia we will win; Russia is the aggressor, not the victim.I pray Urkraine wins and Biden will to save our democracy from authoritarian GOP!

  21. History recap –
