When I speak French in France, most locals are really nice, speak slow and distinctly and appreciate that the kraut learned their language. (Similar in Italy)
When I speak Spanish in Spain the locals talk even faster, because apparently I speak their language and I should be able to understand it, when they generate their sentence.zip.
I have never heard a German get angry because you spoke English to them.
They will just say that they cannot really speak English, and then proceed to explain in perfect, yet slightly-accented English how to get to wherever you need to go.
Not suprised a Spaniard did not include us.
As a german i can tell you: You are completely right about us. But since we colonized Mallorca already, there is no need to speak spanish there.

Believe me the tourists that aren’t willing to speak anything but their native language and get mad if you don’t speak it are the Spanish ones. You’re also by far the cheapest trying to lower prices even if it’s fixed, trying to avoid anything that’s not free. Plus almost as loud as an American. You literally are the worst tourists.

It’s a bit of a cliche, Spaniard can’t speak english so we certainly don’t get mad at them when they speak english in our country.

Germans get mad ?!?!? Every cashier in Kehl, Perl and Saarbrucken can speak german, french and english.
