Gaza: Israel bombs Rafah amid truce push • FRANCE 24 English

I’m joined on the set now by France 24s Kath van Gorges Donnie kathan just break it all down for us if you will where do we stand at the moment who’s agreed to what in these ceasefire talks well uh so far it seems that uh Hamas has agreed to a proposal except it’s not exactly the proposal that the Israelis had agreed to uh prior uh to that so we’re sort of we agree but we don’t agree exactly on the same thing so what is in this proposal is the three phases that we heard in that report uh so it seems there’s quite a bit of agreement on the first phase which would uh include uh hostage release mostly women and children uh in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners during a 42-day truce and uh that would happen over several days uh every few days you would see a few uh hostages released and a uh hundreds of prisoners released then there’s the second phase of that stage the sustainable calm working towards a sustainable calm more hostages released that would include possibly some of the soldiers or reservists that are currently being held mostly IM men that would include it seems the complete withdrawal of uh Israeli soldiers from Gaza now I’ll get back to that and the third part of that phase the end to the Gaza blockade uh The Exchange possibly of bodies of hostages as well as a reconstruction plan the problem is how do you get to the third phase when you don’t agree on on the second one because that is really where it’s blocking right now it’s that sustainable calm they don’t seem to agree on what sustainable calm means it seems that for Hamas it’s the end of the war and the complete withdrawal of Israeli soldiers for Israel that is absolutely not the case because they have fought really for weeks now against any mention of a permanent ceasefire and sustainable calm and permanent ceasefire is pretty much the same so that is I think where really the negotiations are going to keep going because the Israelis might have said that they don’t agree with this but they are sending negotiators to Cairo so we’ll see where that goes indeed and they are also have sent the Israeli Army into Rafa at this point Israel has taken control of that border crossing that now means both Crossings into Southern Gaza are mostly closed where does that leave the people inside that is uh extremely problematic for the humanitarian situation uh on the ground uh put aside uh if you will for a second the fact that there also air strikes taking place uh since yesterday on that eastern part of Rafa as people are still evacuating towards that humanitarian Zone that Israel pointed to uh but as you mentioned the real problem right now is the fact that both the Rafa Crossing and the kareim Shalom Crossing uh the two Crossings on the southern uh edge of Gaza are both closed and these were really uh the two main main avenues for humanitarian Aid just recently they had reopened the northern uh Crossing uh which is all the way at the top of the Gaza Strip the ARs Crossing but that uh by the time it gets all the way down to the South is uh really not uh a replacement for the two on the southern border and one official uh from the UN said this and I think it sums up pretty well what the situation is right now the two main arteries for getting Aid to Gaza are currently choked off and there is no end in sight the Israelis have not said when they plan on reopening any of these two border crossings and in the meantime you have about 1.4 million of people displaced Sheltering in and around the Rafa area that means in the South and for now there’s no Aid getting into the south of Gaza all right cavan thank you for that that’s kathan gorgeous Donnie

As the ceasefire talks stumbled, mediator Qatar said its delegation would head to Cairo on Tuesday to resume indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas. Meanwhile, Israeli sent tanks into Rafah in southern Gaza, seizing control of the border crossing with Egypt on Tuesday, an operation the United Nations said denied it access to the key humanitarian passage. 1. Liberal western media outlets always emphasise on humanitarian issues in Gaza, but never about duty of Palestinians to ask their brethren to stop fighting and release hostages. There no criticism of Qatar for funding Hamas terrorists. In fact Qatar is praised for mediating for cease fire, who in fact is running with the hare and hunting with the hound, also maligning Israel through its propaganda channel, Al Jazira. The news caster is verbose about closure of border crossings, but is silent about why crossings had to be closed.

  2. @France24_en the Kareem Shalom Crossing is being shot at with rockets by Hamas for 2 days now. WHy do you not report that?

  3. after all its not a war crime! Because America and west dont stop supporting Israel…by the way how many settler in the westbank sanctioned by Macron…

  4. They lift on blockade and stop of israil aggression. So why is izr not taking the deal since the beginning?? Obvious they want to be committed to their goal of destroying human lives

  5. Palestinians want thrir freedom and recognition. They didn't ask for money to release hostages. That's what common kidnappers do.

It was obvious from the begining, but the occupation obviously does not care for Palestinians or for any izreeli hostages

  6. Hamas cares nothing for the people of Gaza, brining this war and refusing to return the remaining hostages, keeping 20 some young women to end the November ceasefire for the Gazan people.

  7. Hamas lied again. lied that they had signed the ceasefire deal but the reality is hamas edited the deal and sign on it and bluff the whole world that they had signed
