Battery storage is about to overtake global capacity of pumped hydro

1. FWIW I was thinking that battery storage ought to have a significantly better round trip efficiency vs pumped storage hydro – all that energy lost in mechanical inefficiencies – but a quick search suggests that the difference is minimal – 80-90% for battery vs 70-80% for pumped storage hydro.

   So it’s noticeable but not so significant that it would constrain design decisions.
