  1. I hesitate to say that a club on trial for misrepresenting how much money it spent speaking about how other clubs spend money is a bit odd.

  2. be serious, he doesn’t debunk shit. city has spent their money wisely (and illegally) but it’s still the key factor. tired of beating a dead horse on this

  3. OP the subs you’re active in are a complete shambles, should hang your head In shame

  4. This is the problem with net spend. It’s always cherry picked to benefit.

Inherited a team that had won the league in the years prior to him joining, proceeded to spend **900M** in the next 4 years, then wants credit for having the genius foresight to spend most of that money on players who wouldn’t retire or leave in the next 4.

  5. Says man who wouldn’t be anywhere near Man City were it not for oil money.

  6. Man is acting like he doesn’t fully know there is more going on than on the books. I can’t stand the guy.

  7. So the outsized investment from 2009 to 2016 when Pep joined didn’t matter? I’m so sick of these disingenuous net spend arguments, they conveniently ignore what was inherited. If money didn’t matter he could have joined almost any other club in world football, but he went to the most financially doped up team in the world because of what was already there and the practically unlimited budget he would be given.

Even joining Bayern Munich was because of their financial might relative to everyone else in Bundesliga. He didn’t join Dortmund, Leverkusen, Mönchengladbach, or Schalke, he joined a treble winning Bayern Munich team and immediately dismantled Dortmund by taking Gotze, and Lewandowski the following summer.

Pep likes to have the best resources and all the advantages at his disposal, money isn’t the *only* reason he’s been so successful but goodness me is it a huge reason..

  8. >The Citizens had a net spend of £259 million in the last five years, a far cry from their neighbours, Man United, who have spent a whopping £619mil over the same period, including £400mil in transfer fees during Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Casually ignoring the BILLION FUCKING POUNDS spent between 2012 and then, which is where the real problem lies.

Man City are big enough now that they’re _probably_ self sustaining but it’s built on a decade of cheating lol.

  9. Todays word of the day is “privilege”

Pep has done amazing things and built a behemoth of a team that has been a juggernaut for the past 7 years. But to pretend he didn’t have an advantage is disingenuous.

  10. I swear, the house is not haunted.

Says no seller of haunted houses ever

  11. Pep is the most insufferable manager. I could tolerate him before he started making statements like this, now I cannot stand him. There is a reason why he’s at City and it’s money. He didn’t go to City for any other reason. Breaking financial rules and outspending his opponents certainly didn’t hurt him.

  12. No one is crediting Arsenal’s success due to money, but that’s exactly what’s happening. If money is all it took then United would have one multiple titles already. If cheating, then Everton as well.

  13. Spending a shit load of money is not enough to win a title. If it was Chelsea would be doing a lot better this year. Man United, would have done a lot better over the last 10. You also have to spend it well.

The fact that Man City have spent a shit load of money over the last 20 years doesn’t mean Pep is a fraud. He’s undeniably one of the best managers of our time. That said, he wouldn’t be able to do what he’s done at Man City without that 20 years of investment. He wouldn’t have had success at Bayern with out their history of funding and domination. He wouldn’t have had success at Barca without the platform they built before he got there, off of a ton of money and success.

City’s success isn’t only because of money, but it s a big part. If he wants to prove other wise I’m sure Brentford or Bournmouth would take him on as manager for next season.

  14. Yeah? Cut your budget in half ya wazzer and see where ya get!

  15. He doesn’t debunk anything.

[Man City have been the biggest spenders since the start of the millenia (only behind Chelsea who have also been quite successful due to it).](https://www.football365.com/news/biggest-net-spend-21st-century-chelsea-man-utd-man-city-arsenal)

Cherrypicking to only include the last 5 years (during which time Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd all had to rebuild their squad while Man City didn’t) is such an easy way out and Pep knows his plastic fanbase is gonna lick it up.

  16. It’s funny watching the man highly responsible for creating arguably the best club team in history (Barca 09-12) try to claw his way into relevancy because nobody truly respects what he’s done at the head of such a nothing team.
