Putin PURGES Ministry of Defence…But No One Knows Why!

Putin has removed his Minister of Defense but is this part of a larger Purge of the Russian mod just what is really going on behind the scenes I’m Paul US Army Combat veteran let’s talk about it so the overall story here is that Putin has begun to purge his defense Ministry and they’re framing this as a nuclear secret leak rumor I think there’s more to the story and this is what it looks like so we know that longtime defense minister sh shigu shigu was fired and moved to Russia’s Security Council a kind of do nothing job and that’s after 12 years as Putin’s number one right-hand man when it comes to defense matters and the fact that after 12 years shigu is finally getting canned is a sign of just how badly Putin believes the war has gone now he’s not the only one though if it was just him it would be a symbolic firing right somebody has to somebody’s head has to roll for the failure of the Russian military and they decided it’s got to be shigu but the reality is a little more complicated because two of shao’s deputies alexe kko and rousin tat sikov have both submitted their resignations actually backdated a week before shoigu was fired so this says that it is more like a Purge and less like a a symbolic kind of take the fall firing now the real story as we peel back the layers of this onion we also see of course Deputy Finance Minister taana shvetsova also resigned uh but as we look through the layers we see that there are is two kind of lines of thinking about what has happened here a third if you add this nuclear secrets that I don’t really put a lot of stake in the first thesis is that Putin is unhappy with the state of the war he believed it was supposed to take a few weeks we’re now stretching into three years the entire Russian economy needed to be retooled to to to make it work and he simply is purging what he sees as kind of these backwards thinking mod officials who don’t have the right perspective for this kind of long attritional War uh that’s possible Right right the other thesis according to at least some folks on telegram uh who are known opposition folks right is that Ivanov and tat leov have actually been accused of leaking nuclear secrets and could be facing State treason charges right they raids on Ivanov and accomplishes yield of data on classified military projects including nuclear installation uh this is uh this is again the Russian opposition member uh said the same thing in a Youtube video um and this would be interesting CU it would imply that they were compromised by some other country uh however I’m a little skeptical simply because that’s a pretty big screw up right and it I don’t think that someone who is that close to the top would be so careless as to not just leak the nuclear secrets but to like keep evidence of that leak in their home somewhere it’s really really pretty reckless what I think is most the other the other thing that has something to do with it is that recently the head of personnel Russia’s mod which is interesting again as we know Russia’s mobilization campaign getting warm bodies to the front uh which has been very successful and is one of Russia’s comparative advantages in this war is its Personnel gener or its Force generation um the head of that Personnel Department um Yuri ketov was arrested on suspicion of bribery last week of more than a million dollars in cash and valuables discovered at its properties now for those of you that don’t know anything about Russia being a highlevel Russian official and hoarding a million dollars in cash and valuables that’s like small potatoes okay that is like that’s like a member of Congress doing like like inside are trading with like three shares of Nvidia okay it’s not even on the radar in terms of it’s the amount right again most of these corrupt Russian officials are seeing tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in Kickbacks contracts no bid just all sorts of of stuff so a million dollars is peanuts and ketov it was suspected of quote receiving a bribe on an especially large scale according to a state investigative committee according to the investigation right during 2021 to 2023 K received a bribe from representatives of commercial structures I think this is a Russian term for businesses for performing certain actions in their favor right very standard sort of Russia stuff five people have been arrested in the Scandal including Tamar Ivanov who’s been in pre-trial detention since April 23rd accused of receiving bribes worth 11 million in the form of Property Services from a construction company return for contracts that’s more what I would expect from highle Russian government officials so the why are they going after these people with perfunctory charges right this is something that again almost every highlevel official in the Russian mod is guilty of this right so why are they going after these folks in a sort of symbolic corruption Purge and what I I think this actually is is Putin is trying to secure himself electorally right he wants to be shown that he is purging corruption because again look the poorest poor rural Russians are the ones dying in this war but that also is Putin’s most militant power base so you literally can’t go and kill off the people who support you the most so he has to be seen as doing something to purge the mod of these people who they believe are getting all of these Russians killed and and have led Russia into a disastrous War I think that is what’s really happening of course his new appointment um Bellis SUV is as we talked about an economist with no military experience and he shares not just Putin’s stances but his plan to win the war is to lean into Russia’s competitive Advantage which is logistics and Manpower Force generation and the fact is that bring in an economist is going to be able to shift Russia’s economy into a war footing right for the long term so that tells me that given that Putin’s goal is to retool the Russian economy and put an economist at the head of the war says that Russia’s overall plan is to fight this war for a long time and commit all the resources of the Russian state to do so
