  1. It only took 18 months of deliberately slow and restricted military support for Ukraine, followed by 6 months of almost zero support, for this to happen. Ukraine’s support has now resumed at full trickle, but the Russian military is clearly unstoppable.

    edit:

I forgot the requests that Ukraine not damage Russia’s revenue generating infrastructure, and the fact that even now Ukraine’s ‘allies’ provide more revenue to Russia through trade (sometimes indirect) than they provide in aid to Ukraine. This level of support for Ukraine is eye-watering.

  2. US could provide far more aid if it feels that way without delay. Europe is already doing a significant amount. Ukraine needs weapon systems that can also strike into Russia. Europe doesnt have these to give Ukraine but US does.

  3. At this point is obvious this is just going on because there’s an election in November and it’d look terrible for Biden if negotiations started before then.

If Trump wins, they can blame Trump for Ukraine folding, even if it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

If Biden wins, then it doesn’t really matter because he’s term limited. But if Biden wins, he’ll be publicly supporting peace negotiations before March 2025. Likely still this year.

  4. Well, lets deescalate and play conflict management some more..

  5. The momentum in this war swung as soon as Ukraine decided in all its wisdom to announce a counter offensive publicly months in advance of the attack, bang their head against hugely fortified lines, continue bleeding away huge numbers of experienced troops and get ground down in Russian offensives.

  6. The war is over. You fought bravely but it’s time to save your soldiers Ukraine. Make a deal, give up your territory, and come live in western countries where there is opportunity and no bully neighbor.
