People, especially but not exclusively North Americans, are just too emotionally fragile today across the board.
> Why go to the theatre if you’re going to be warned about things that are in the play? Isn’t the whole business of going to the theatre about seeing something that you can be excited, surprised, or stimulated by? It’s like being told they’re all dead at the end of King Lear. I don’t want to be told
Her logic here would extend to all entertainment though, why watch a show if you are told sexual abuse or self harm is depicted? And it seems pretty odd to draw that line, I’d rather have a vague spoiler happen than for someone with trauma be made uncomfortable without knowing it would happen.
This really just seems like “I don’t need one so nobody does”, there’s reasonable ways to have a trigger warning available at the theatre without telling everyone if it really does somehow ruin it for people
I get why it’s there, but I wish there was an option to turn the warnings off when streaming. I’m tired of being spoiled that a character is going to commit suicide or something. It seems that there should be better ways of delivering warnings in the digital age that make it so that not everyone needs to have the plot ruined to protect a small group of people that can’t separate fiction from their real experiences. Being able to toggle warnings like subtitles makes sense. As for going to the theater, I don’t know how we prevent that, but it seems like there should be apps for that, idc. I’m not trying to sound cold, but we live in an age where anyone can do due diligence and we should have the technology to help them do that without needing to read the entire show on Wikipedia.
Not everyone is you, Judi.
Hello, this movie is going to make you feel things and that’s the point. Ok bye.
Is it really so much effort to just give people a heads up? What’s the harm? Sounds like more people are offended by the trigger warning than the trigger itself.
