SF are positioning them selves as more mainstream and losing the protest (header) vote. It’s kind of reassuring, actually. I might vote for them now.
Whatever about individual polls, the trend for Sinn Féin is poor. They fluffed 2020 by not running enough candidates to get into government, suddenly became popular enough that people consider them the next party of government, and now we’re approaching the election they’re getting increased scrutiny while simultaneously becoming a party that looks like it’ll flip flop on you just like anyone else.
They still have six or nine months to turn it around, but I think they’ve gone from “it’ll be Sinn Fein to form the next government” to “you could see FG/FF returning with someone like SD.” (Last govt got enough seats on 46% of the vote – on the poll above, FF-FG-SD, or another smaller party – would have that share, as an example.)
Great to see it.
In fairness , Sinn Fein got a lot of protest votes in the last election and since then, they’ve been a terrible opposition party . Their recent stance on migration has alienated some of their grassroot supporters . So I’m not surprised about their slump in the polls

One of them called to our door yesterday. Was so obviously asking me what I was looking for and then explaining they would deliver it. Not an idea at all in their heads. Its all tell us what you want and you will get it instead of having a plan.
I was slightly leaning towards them but I won’t vote for them now. They really aren’t fit to govern.
What worries me about SF is I don’t know where they stand on most things. They make a lot of noise about housing, but then you regularly see their reps jumping on NIMBY stuff locally.
Then when it comes to the far right, they seem to not be standing up or pushing back, which gets me wondering are they calculating whether to go for the hardline ultra nationalist vote or something.
I’m also not sure where they stand on the EU and international politics. They have some weird alignment in the European Parliament etc, although that being said FF did too until a couple of election cycles ago.
It’s one of the few elections where I really don’t know where to vote. I’m fed up with the status quo and think they’re drifting into a mess, but I’m not exactly inspired by what I’m seeing from SF either.
These polls are bollox. If there was a GE tomorrow FF and FG would be crushed.
So FG, FF & Greens again?
It’s easy to say “I hate the current shower, I’ll definitely vote for SF” when an election is months away. But then when it’s a few weeks away some people start thinking “Actually maybe the devil we know is safer”
Where have Pearse Doherty and Eoin O’Broin disappeared to? Haven’t seen hide nor hair of them in a couple of years? Insurance and Housing problems haven’t exactly gone away.
SF have a plethora of very good politicians it must be said. I don’t agree with a lot of their views but they are good politicians.
I’ve wondered about the true levels of support for them, under Gerry and Martin they would be happy with getting 15% in a national poll, closer to 10% was their natural level, then they changed leader and boom they were getting 30%, but nothing within the party has changed, they have gained some younger voters to be fair but support has been dropping and I think they would be doing very well to get somewhere in and around 20% of the vote, I could be wrong of course but time will tell.
I actually despair driving around , seeing all the election posters, and realise how bad and self serving our politicians are . Very few politicians would last in the private sector if they carried on the way they do in the Dail. The amount of our money they waste and there’s no repercussions for it . Anywhere else, they’d be sacked or demoted to making tea.
When you word search the wall of text that is page one of their policy goals the word “immigration” does not appear and “migration” is mentioned once, not as a heading but that it’s committed to it.
“…committed to diplomacy, humanitarianism, peace-building and co-operation with other states on global challenges including poverty, world hunger, climate change, conflict resolution and migration”
I don’t care to search page two as if it’s not top of page one they’re not an option.
Immigration is a national emergency at this point and SF have shown a complete lack of backbone re this and have refused to read the room until the room left the room by voting how they did at the referendum.
5 points will soon be 10, good riddance.
Sinn Fein are making the classic mistake of trying to please everyone and alienating their grassroots supporters. I’ll still vote for them as my local candidates seem to want to work for the community whereas FF/FG have this air of arrogance when they knock on the door

I can’t remember the last time I have heard a Sinn Fein representative even address any issues we are currently having they seem to be missing from a lot of big conversations and they had such momentum but completely fluffed it. There is literally no one worth my vote at the minute I will still vote just to keep the loopers out but no party has anything close to a sensible policy.
