A vote of confidence for the young Irishman, who was touch-and-go to race in Formula 3 this year. To my knowledge, he has had no big backing prior to this point.
Graduates of McLaren’s Development Driver / Junior Driver programme include Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, Stoffel Vandoorne, Nyck de Vries and many others.

Hard game to get anywhere without rich parents or a driver programme like this, so well done to him as McLaren must see some talent there.

Was very disappointed that he wasn’t picked up by the FDA in 2022 so this is great to see. Though Piastri and Norris probably have the F1 seats locked down, McLaren also has seats in IndyCar and FE.
He’s probably not going to make it to F1, but I reckon he’ll make it to F2 and do decent enough. Would be a good driver for an Indycar or Formula E team.
