Oh come on! Every nation is dependent on some other nations Germany gets its gas from Russia now what?
Nobody says anything against the Saudis because we get our oil from them.
Nobody says anything against China because we get cheap labour from them.
Whole Europe is dependent on Russian gas because it’s cheaper then the US gas and we already have the infrastructure to get it easily instead of being shipped over from the US.
Even Ukraine is dependent on Russian gas but Nobody says a thing. Russia just wants to use Nord Stream to cut the Ukraine pipeline and freeze the Ukraines into submission or at least that they finally pay there bills for all that stolen gas over the years.
>In short, Germany’s dependence on Russian gas is entirely an artifact of Germany’s decision to shut down its nuclear-power plants.
I’d hope people would just do some basic fact checking. Only 15% of gas in Germany is used for electricity. The rest is heating and industrial usage which cannot easily be replaced by nuclear.
That makes no fucking sense. If you invest properly in renewables that would make you *less* dependent on Russia. Although I will give them that getting rid of nuclear power was a really stupid idea and the environmentalists were partly guilty of that.
The National Review is some right-wing rag in the US which explains it. And trust them to have to relate it back to the US for no reason whatsoever
Germanys gas usage is now lower than it was 2010 before the major nucleae exit began.
Both coal and gas usuage are continuously declining.
In fact germany is pursuing one of the most aggressive policies to get rid of both coal and gas.
But listening to reddit you would think germany gets 80% of its energy from gas.
These articles are frankly detached from the reality of germanys energy policy
Dependent…. independent…. did you even sees prices on electricity and heating in Germany? It is insane!

According to [https://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp/business-sites/en/global/corporate/pdfs/energy-economics/statistical-review/bp-stats-review-2021-full-report.pdf](https://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp/business-sites/en/global/corporate/pdfs/energy-economics/statistical-review/bp-stats-review-2021-full-report.pdf) before shutting down nuclear plants in 2010 Germany used 88.1 billion cubic meters of gas. In 2020 this was 86.5 bm3 after shutting down most of the nuclear plants.
