1. # States impacted by air quality from wildfires

   The following states saw air quality alerts:

   * **Iowa:** Monday morning, parts of the state saw air quality drop to the “unhealthy” range, reports [WHO 13](https://who13.com/news/smoke-from-canadian-wildfires-bringing-unhealthy-air-to-us-cities-where-is-it-worst/)
   * **Minnesota**- Saw air quality alerts from Sunday to Monday night, according to a [press release](https://www.pca.state.mn.us/news-and-stories/air-quality-alert-issued-immediately-due-to-wildfire-smoke-for-all-of-minnesota).
   * **Montana**- Air quality dropped on Monday, but saw improvement later in the day as surface winds began to shift, states a different [press release](https://deq.mt.gov/News/smokeforecasts-folder/smoke-forecast-05-13-2024) from Montana’s Department of Environmental Quality.
   * **North Dakota**- The state was put on alert [Monday](https://www.usatoday.com/story/graphics/2024/05/14/us-canadian-wildfire-smoke-map-2024/73686016007/) as smoke from the neighboring country impacted the air.
   * **South Dakota**-On Monday, South Dakota announced the alert that would stay in effect until Tuesday.
