  1. Italian fascists dont recieve that much hate?

I mean they sucked at war just like all italians since Rome, but at least the trains came in time.

  2. Spanish fascists were just authoritarian towards their own people. German fascists stole my grandpa’s bike and company and sent him to a labour camp.

  3. Franco seems to get a pass for presiding over the Spanish Miracle. He also kinda turned into a Diet Fascist at the end

  4. >They have, there is no doubt, a generosity, a species of nobility, that do not really belong to the twentieth century. It is this that makes one hope that in Spain even Fascism may take a comparatively loose and bearable form. Few Spaniards possess the damnable efficiency and consistency that a modern totalitarian state needs.

    Orwell on Spanish facism

  5. First, they wouldnt have won without your grandfather on the planes

Second, he realized before the war ended that the germans were a bunch of losers and switched teams to daddy USA bastion against communism

  6. Because facist Spaniards never did anything, just like all other kinds of Spaniards.

  7. Because they were sleeping the entire time… 🤷‍♂️

  8. Because they didn’t declare war on half the world, Hans it seems that you are not so smart after all

  9. Because the spanish didn’t really participate in WW2. They had a civil war in spain but that’s about it.

  10. Because they didn’t do shit except sit in Spain and have siestas.

  11. because spanish fascist only killed spanish people.. so that’s a plus in my book..

  12. Because like the Spanish themselves, they were to lazy to do anything completely stupid to their neighbours

  13. It’s far easier to get good press when you are not overextending yourself.

  14. The fact that I don’t know a lot about it and that they didn’t start a world war.

  15. If by “unemployed people” you mean us Spaniards, we don’t care about nazis, jews, fascists or whatever.. but half the movies, books, shows, etc.. that we produce are based on hate to the dictatorship. I hate Franco but I wouldn’t say that I hate Hitler more than I hate.. idk, the people that park the car occupying two slots.

  16. Because we needed somewhere non-comunist to go to vaccation so we didnt want to make them upset

  17. What German fascists? National socialism, while sharing some commonalities are not the same ideology, the principle difference being antisemitism derived from the Jews controlling the world conspiracy theory(which most fascists didn’t believe in)

  18. Because he wasn’t stupid enough to enter a war he knew could not be won.

  19. There was a little thing called WW2, Idk if youve heard of it

  20. Many reasons.

1)They didn’t join the axis so they weren’t exterminated after WW2.

2)Franco knew how to get on the U.S good side so that they wouldn’t intervene.

3)Even if he was a dictator, Franco was nowhere near as brutal as the other fascists meaning that he didn’t gather as many enemies.

4)The Spanish miracle where the economy grew substantially.

5)The second republic in itself was just as bad as the regime, if not worse. It was a period of constant political assassinations, terrorism, revolts and general instability. Essentially it didn’t matter who won the Spanish civil war, Spain was fucked either way.

So, many people actually saw Franco as a saviour or at least as the less bad option between the two so he never really lost support from a good chunk of the population.

  21. He won the war so during 40 years of purges, control of the educational system and propaganda had its effects.

  22. Because we kept it in the country. One can only make suppositions about how it would have went had the republicans won the war, but the Spanish dictatorship is the one that damaged their own country the most out of all of them, by virtue of being the longest.

  23. Maybe because he did not join the Axis countries. He did not build concentration camps in his country, etc. What is the difference between him and what happened, for example, in Eastern Europe with the communists, who are not hated as much as Franco, even though they led to the deaths of millions of people?

Franco was no different in his brutality from the Spanish Communists.

  24. Eddie Izzard had a great bit on this which boils down to the fact that we don’t really care if you kill your own people. Hitler and Mussolini on the other hand, they killed people next door. Franco never invaded Poland, and he never declared war on the allies, so he gets a bit of a pass.

  25. Because what happens in Spain stays in Spain, unlike other places apparently…
