  1. I’d normally go on a rant about insurance scammers but illiterate and a mother of 16. That’s a rough auld life.

  2. God only knows what her children and grandchildren have learned from her, no doubt society will continue to pay for the example she set. Custodial sentence was the only option here

  3. “Her defence counsel told the court she was from a Traveller background, had practically no education, was functionally illiterate and in poor health.”

So more likely than not there were other people behind this and they’ve chosen to use granny because she’s unlikely to ever see the inside of a prison?

  4. God it must be hard to be a judge. I know she did wrong but I think id have to have a cry for myself if id to send an old woman like her the prison. She looks so old in the picture with her walking stick and she apologising too in court.

  5. Surely something needs done about her legal representatives that enabled her to make all these fraudulent claims??

  6. Q: Why is this thread like me on a Friday evening?

A: Both are going to be locked fairly soon

  7. She’s younger than Trump and Biden. A decade younger than Higgins. If they can run for office then she can serve time for her crimes.

  8. Isnt it mad that if she hurt someone, she probably would have gotten less time. I dont condone any illegal activity, just a thought

  9. Brace yourselves, the “A chara”s are coming

  10. Is this gonna be one of those times where they report to the prison only to be told they just have to sign in every so often and go home?

  11. Straight to prison but if you pay back double what you stole you get out straight away. That would be good.

  12. Will Pavee point care to comment, a traveller committing crime sure that’s what all the settled people say they do

  13. Excellent. Every one of us is literally paying the price for people like this. Also, why is it relevant that she’s a grandmother?

  14. Retirement sorted. 3 meals a day and constant care. I’m absolutely certain that it’s a better place than most of retirement homes out there. The abuse in them is rife and they are treated well worse there than in jail. I’ve seen it.

  15. In this day and age you’d think we’d have come up with some other way of dealing with non-violent criminals rather than putting them up at the taxpayer’s expense to the tune of €84k per annum. IMO prison should be reserved solely for violent criminals.

And then you have scumbags and perverts who cause far more than €28k worth of damage to property and incalculable damage to people’s lives being giving repeated suspended sentences by the likes of Nolan.

  16. When I lived in Clondalkin I was approached at my house by a solicitor to sign off that the path outside our house was damaged and his client was sueing the council. Fairly sure this was the name on the paper that I outright refused to sign to confirm path damage (which it wasn’t anyway).

  17. The solicitors who facilitate fraud should be struck off.
