Sure James, the entirity of western liberal democracy is now defunct because some Americans voted in a reality TV star that lasted one term and was impeached twice.
Unfortunately for me, I can be disgusted at more than one thing at once.
I would have gone for “I wonder whether the West can lecture anyone after backing Black October and obliterating Russian electoral rules to bankroll the 1996 Yeltsin campaign.”
But that’s just me.
Of course they can. Trump was voted out of office. How long has Putin been in charge now?
Typical wishy washy lib nonsense that the West was only the baddy post 2016
I was listening today and he seemed to have had a malfunction. This nonsense about all of us having elected the president of the free world was like some weird low budget Hollywood film with that sort of sloganeering especially as non-US people never got any vote.
And he seems to have forgotten that the point of the “free world” is that people can elect who they like and then get someone else in at another election.
Firstly I think, if anything, we should have *more* ability to lecture on something if we have our own experiences of it.
Secondly I think there’s a lot worse than Trump out there. He did refrain from genocides and annexations (just about).
I cant seem to budge the idea that James is a cunt.
And after the west lost a war it fought for 20 years in Afghanistan.
He should be saying this about Tony Blair and George Bush but they have both been rehabilitated and libs forgot they ever opposed them
‘The West’ (whatever that means) did not vote for Trump…
Would have expected better from JoB. Didn’t ever see him coming out to bat for Russia.
Also the invasion of Iraq and the disastrous intervention in Libya.
Imagine if Russia started threatening to wage war against us when we were about to invade Iraq.
The UK is not the world’s policeman, and frankly we do not today have anything close to the power to be such even if we wanted to. It is both hypocritical and impractical to act as if we are.
I like James O’Brien, but this is a pretty fucking stupid thing to say.
Funny how he doesn’t apply this to himself – his ceaseless denigration of Corbyn at every possible opportunity is what gave us Johnson and even more years of murderous Tory government. Remember Corbyn was 2000 votes away from taking power in 2017 (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/corbyn-election-results-votes-away-prime-minister-theresa-may-hung-parliament-a7782581.html) and it’s entirely plausible that O’Brien’s ongoing hate campaign against him caused +2000 people not to vote Labour. But that’s Centrists for you – hypocritical to the core, politically naive and utterly removed from the reality that the rest of us live in. They couldn’t recognise that Corbyn was our last chance for a way out of this and hold their noses and vote accordingly. The end result is thousands and thousands more deaths of disabled and vulnerable people.
Ok, not a fan of Trump by any means, but how can anyone compare him to Putin or Xi? Like honestly fuck off with this whataboutism.
