Just after midday on the 10th of November 1994, a 31-year-old woman was found savagely beaten alongside a public footpath in the town of Irvine, situated on the west coast of Scotland.
She had been viciously bludgeoned with a blunt instrument during a sustained attack, and despite being air lifted to a specialist hospital unit, she sadly never regained consciousness – leaving behind a seven year old daughter.
Despite their best efforts, investigators were unable to establish a motive and seemingly had no evidence to help identify the person or persons responsible – leaving a community to fear a killer was living among them.
Multiple convicted offenders in Scotland have been linked with the crime, but none have been charged.
Over a quarter of a century later, after countless appeals and intermittent periods of high media coverage, police revealed details of a specific item found at the scene in what appears to be a last ditch attempt in the pursuit of justice.
