When we were in our teens and the travelling funfair turned up to our village in West Sussex this is the ride that everybody would get excited about. If you had the guts to go upside down on it you basically earned infinite cool points. There was also another move which involved starting in a handstand position but then 'sitting up' upside down. Hard to explain. No-one ever put the safety chain on.
Was this just at our village or did this happen across the whole country?
I went on one a couple of years ago with my daughter (I'm 45) and the thought of doing a handstand basically felt suicidal.
I can't believe we actually did it!
Anyone else?

  1. He’ll no. I was too busy being concerned not slipping downwards.

  2. I was one of those scaredy cats who could barely move on them, and was always envious of the ‘cool people’ doing all sorts of tricks!

I miss unfairs. Wasted so much money on hook-a-duck!

  3. I remember it was called the Meteorite. I used to lift my legs up once it started spinning but never ever saw someone do a handstand. That would require balls of steel. Or lots of alcohol.
