I’ve recently bought my first apartment in a heavily sought after region after 4 years of saving. If this would ever go through, that would sink the value of my apartment.
The Flemish government – where Vooruit is in the opposition- lowered the registration rights for the first home and significantly increased them for second, third,… homes
Conversely, the Federal government where Vooruit is part of the ruling coalition, keeps a fiscal advantage for second, third,… homes.
But sure this convoluted proposal will do something that Vooruit wants: increase the clicks on Conner’s social media feed

Als ik dergelijke dingen lees vraag ik mij af wie zou bepalen wat een betaalbare huurprijs is, en op welke grond?
This is an awful idea. What is this constant obsession with owner-occupied housing by political parties. The rental market is already awful enough in Belgium. There’s too little of it. This proposition will tank the supply of rental housing for poor people for advantages for middle class households.
Weer zo’n typisch voorstel die enkel dient om stemmen te ronselen bij de volgende verkiezingen.

If you want to give ‘starters’ a better opportunity, build more quality social housing, and offer them up for sale to first-time buyers, maybe even under a cooperative housing agreement. In this cooperative housing agreement, you buy shares in the housing cooperation, which gives you the right to live in a house or apartment, and if you leave, you can sell your share. I’m no expert but I think it’s an idea worth looking at.
My grand-parents got the opportunity to buy their house from a social housing thing. Was it the greatest house ever? Hell no, but it was ok in quality, and they could live there affordably.

how about we just don’t give any type of tax advantage for owning a second house? 🙂
