‘How Concerned Is The President?’: Reporter Grills White House On Russia’s Latest Attacks On Ukraine

thank you thank you no problem um How concerned is the president about the advances the Russian army is making around I mean you saw uh you saw uh secretary blinkin uh in in uh in Ukraine yesterday and I think uh he laid out our commitment uh obviously to um uh to to Ukraine and that’s one of the reasons that we fought so hard uh certainly to get uh that National Security Supplemental done uh and so we are focused on supporting Ukraine’s defense uh we’re going to continue to do that in in karke obviously uh in that region where Ukrainian forces are fighting very hard and uh and as you know on Friday we warn that we had anticipating we had been anticipating that Russia would launch an offensive against karke and we’re anticipating that Russia would increase its attacks in an attempt to establish a shallow buffer zone along the Ukraine border and we have been coordinating closely with Ukraine to help them prepare and as you’ve heard us say you heard Jake said this as well on Monday how when the when the um National Social Security Supplemental became law the President right away uh moved forward with the president author authorization for $1 billion of military aid package and so that continues to flow uh certainly the department of Def defense would have more uh on that and so and then on Friday he authorized a second military package uh to send more urgently needed weapons including artillary artillery ammunition air defense interceptors and aircraft anti-aircraft missiles armed Vehicles artillery rounds javelins and anti- armor systems and other equipment needed to defend kke and other areas under threat we are also working on another package to get to to get uh urgently needed Aid to Ukraine so you’ve seen our commitment you’ve seen our commitment through the secretary secretary blinkin obviously who was just there we’re committed committed uh to uh Ukraine continuing to fight for their democracy uh the and and continuing um to fight the aggression Russia’s aggression
