Chemist weighing in here. These levels are amazingly low, single digit and sub ng/L. The guardian is showing their sensationalism here, or their lack of understanding of toxicology. We are only even able to see these low levels because they are likely using LC MS MS, which is an extremely powerful analytical instrument.
I’m not saying that it isn’t a bad thing that we can detect background levels of PFAS in the Great Lakes, just that we have bigger fish to fry.
