Will the government accept looser rules? To say Brexit is a success they will.
Will the people said government and the murdoch press whipped into a frenzy about how unacceptable it was thst the cleaner at Tesco was Polish accept it? Different matter.
And so the fun begins.
The government is not the people but it does need them.
Brexit is tanking and they need a win. India is a big scalp, a massive, protectionist economy that only trades on its own terms.
But as is pointed out. Their terms will be around migration and jobs for their middle classes and graduates, many of whom already work arms length for U.K. businesses as ‘offshore tech support’ etc.
IF we assume that the brexit vote was indeed a coded vote for ‘white Britain’ as all of the empire nostalgia bollocks seems to suggest it was then there’s obviously a massive crunch coming when the average racist brexit bod (assuming again that’s the driving force behind brexit) realises not only have they not stopped immigration like they thought they would; they’ve actually increased it, and exchanged a culturally and visually similar group of migrants (broadly European, Christian, Eastern European nationals) for a culturally and visually dissimilar group of migrants.
Quite how their racist heads will cope with the sudden influx of very obvious diversity into their world I don’t know.
But it’ll be fun to watch.
I argued during the brexit conflict that immigrants from non EU countries that were to some extent controlled the actual alloted number allowed in was always exceeded.
I also argued that new trade deals would inevitably lead to any visa restrictions being changed and allow a freedom of movement unlike the current regulations. Basically , you will have the same amount of Johnny foreigner coming in just different nationalities to rail against. Where the UK could patrol it’s borders it didn’t. It seems that brexiteers are slowly going to be shown how futile brexit was. Give it a few more years and they will be wanting to leave the world. Jesus.
I’m not overall a fan of this. But it will be worth it to watch the racists who couldn’t cope with some Polish people when Indians start turning up en masse…
