1. Russia needs to open more secondary fronts so Ukraine has to divert vital troops to the danger zones, away from the main front. That will allow Russia to concentrate their attacks on the main objectives while Ukraine is busy repelling attacks coming from multiple directions, wasting resources and time. They did the same thing to the Germans in WW2 and it was a huge success. Ukraine will run out of trained troops eventually and when they are forced to use the reserve filled with old, untrained soldiers it's all over. Remember, the Germans used the most advanced weaponry and resources from axis countries and still lost the war after 4 years. Weapons alone won't win a war if you are running out of quality soldiers.
