As it’s a lovely sunny Sunday on this fair island it got me thinking about DIY projects and which ones have been most enjoyable.
By far my favourite was turning an old bed in to this bench. Missus looked at me like I’d lost my marbles when I mentioned it. 6 hours later she didn’t think I was quite as mad!

  1. That’s really nice 🙂

Probably my favourite diy hack job is a table I made myself.

I got given a Singer sewing machine treadle base (the ironwork and wheel etc, but not the wooden table top and drawers), and cleaned it up, spray painted it black and handpainted the lettering in gold paint.

I then found a decent quality pine pallet that a local business was dumping, carried it home over my shoulder, took it apart, and sanded the planks to make a table top.

Waxed it with furniture wax, and it’s been standing in my dining room next to my 1951 industrial sewing machine ever since.

This was about 15 years ago, and apart from the occasional wax it needs nothing doing to it. It’s also strong enough for me to stand on to clean the blinds in the window behind it 🙂

  2. That looks brilliant! I think I’ve got the dining table from that furniture range, which I’ve been looking to repurpose similarly. Is carpentry generally a hobby of yours, or did you use an online project guide for it?

  3. I looked at that and thought it looks like a solid old bed frame. Then read your description.

Looks real good. We turned an old bed into some step raised planters. I was so proud I got them straight!
