Where do you guys throw these on trash? Plastic, compost or regular? Is there any other more eco responsible way to dispose of them?

  1. Both the capsules of L’Or and Illy, you can send them for free by post when you have a certain amount.
It’s likely other brands too, but these are the brands we use. Thank you for your effort!

Zowel de capsules van L’ Or als die van illy kan je naar hen gratis versturen vanaf een bepaald aantal.
Waarschijnlijk andere merken ook, maar dat zijn de merken die wij hier gebruiken. Dankjewel voor je moeite!

  2. So this is how you deal with them in a step by step guide:
    1. You take a pod and look carefully at it, checking it is aluminium.
    2. You take the pod, open it with a small knife, throw the coffee into the biological waste and the aluminium into the cans/plastics/alu waste.
    3. Repeat this for all capsules you have.
    4. Take the Nespresso and throw this into the general waste.
    5. Get a real espresso machine and grinder.
    6. Get real coffee beans for less than the price of Nespresso pods.
    7. Enjoy good coffee!

  3. You can also buy refillable pods and use your own coffee. I do it with dolce gusto, but you can also buy it for nespresso.

  4. They are not eco.
Aluminium is plenty in the environment but it takes a lot of energy.
It is wasted on this single use.

I throw them with pmd. The coffee i try to toss at the worms/plants.

  5. I will get a new machine with a grinder soon, tired of wasting capsules, even compostable ones, and refilling my reusable ones.

For two years now I use my favourite grinded coffee like Douwe Egberts or any other and put them in a reusable metal cap for nespresso. I bought 10 on Aliexpress, yes heavy user here and im too lazy to wash them after every use. They’re called icafilas or icafillas, something like that… If you look you will find.
But please don’t buy that oem brand evergreen, it’s exactly the same manufacturer on aliexpress but 30x cheaper.

I also buy compostable caps from the brand Koffiekan and also from that sustainable bio bla bla bla farmers from time to time.
You can find those in Bioshops all over Flanders, Koffiekan has a webshop.

  6. Delonghi manual espresso machine. 87 EUR

Grinded coffee for espressomachine, like Illy or Lavazza… 3 – 6 eur for 250g

The best coffee at the best price.

I was never able to grind my coffee beans myself as goodaas that package…

  7. I’ll assume you buy these for a reason, so ignore the “buy different capsules” or “buy a new machine” tips.

An actual way to recycle these, is cutting the lid off every time. It’s a bit of a hassle, but if you have access to (someone with) a 3d printer, check Thingiverse. There are a few nice tools specifically designed to open and empty nespresso-like capsules ([Example here](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:723702) )

Either way, recycle the capsule as you should (whether it’s aluminium or plastic), use the ground coffee for a myriad of things: soil fertilizer, deodorizer for your fridge, maintaining your kitchen sink’s drain,…

  8. You give them back to Nespresso. They have bags in every store, and you can bring em back in every store

  9. Personnaly, I go to a Deli Traiteur where they have those Nespresso vending machines. They also give plastic bags to put all the used coffee that is supposed to be recycled. But I do not buy from Nestle anymore, I just use them to recycle the capsules from Douwe Egberts…

Once the bag is sealed, nobody knows and at the factory, the worker probably doesn’t give a shit!

    And fuck Nestle anyway!

  10. Yes, trow that awfull godforsaken, nature raping, bad coffeemaking machine away. And buy yourself a regular coffee machine

  11. ITT: a lot of butt hurt coffee snobs and allround assholes! Oh, r/belgium, you never disappoint.

  12. You can recycle these all day long but in the end, if you want eco-friendlier coffee, you get a machine that grinds beans.

MUCH better coffee too, and way cheaper.

  13. Unless Nespresso starts giving me some free pods when bringing them a bag of used pods for recycling these will keep going into the normal trash bag at home.
