Kharkiv attacked by drones in longest air raid alert of the war | Ukraine War

hi yeah it’s it’s quiet now in the city center but that was well in the city it wasn’t like that overnight um there was this there were drones there was also reports of uh an s300 air defense missile uh being fired towards the city Landing in open ground according to the governor the air raid siren according to local media the air raid alert lasted for more than 16 hours 1 six hours uh and that is apparently the longest air raid siren that’s been recorded since the start of the fullscale invasion uh more than two years ago in terms of actual damage here U members of the Sky News team in the overnight just after midnight could hear the sound of drones flying over the city um they were also able to see Ukraine’s air defense systems engage these drones there were flashes of light in the sky a sign of how Ukraine is clearly still trying to defend itself but also the fact that some of these drones did get through and it’s not clear at the moment how many the harv government governor on his um social media page has talked about at least two drones hitting in open areas but near residential houses and damaging homes there’s no report so far of casualties but that does underline how well yes Ukraine still has the ability to take out some of these missiles and drones that Russia repeatedly fires in its direction it’s um its stockpiles of air defense missiles are are significantly depleted now and that’s why you hear from the Ukrainian president especially when he had his um top visitor from the US the um Secretary of State this week coming over the repeated message is to give Ukraine more air defense missiles more ammunition um but this all happening as Russian forces in the harv region they invaded a week ago and they are still pushing trying to take ground with the Ukrainian military still holding the line for now

Sky’s Deborah Haynes, who is in the Ukrainian city, said at least five drones were involved in the attack which lasted 16 hours and one person is known to have died.

Ukrainian media said the 16-hour air raid alert was the longest of the war so far.

Russian troops have been advancing around Kharkiv but Moscow claims it does not intend to capture Ukraine’s second city.

  8. I dont think there is much resistance to Russia on the ground in Kharkiv …that's why it fell so easily to them earlier. Taking it back is looking more and more part of Ru's strategy.

  13. Putin clings to power, well knowing he will fall out a basement window if he loses it. He would not start a war with Ukraine and then lose that war, he will do whatever it takes to win.
    He will alocate 7% of GDP to defence , gear his economy for war and make plenty of money from oil as the 4th largest producer. I am pro Ukraine , but not pro stupid. Putin has a goal, and he has dedicated resources , unlimited manpower and supplies. Meanwhile men of fighting age are leaving Ukraine in droves, to dodge the new draft. Ukraine does not have the equipment and unlimited resources to fight a large scale war. The west is giving Ukraine peanuts to fight a very large beast. They need serious kit , equipment and support!!

  19. We have all been assured since day one of this conflict that Russia simply cannot win. The politicians, media and their experts detailed how Ukraine was winning, how the next offensive would end Russia. And we were confidently told that the next weapons system supplied to Ukraine, along with another few billion dollars, would be the "game changer". The bought-and-paid-for “military experts” who once pontificated loud and long and, invariably, wrong have moved on. We were also told that Ukraine was fighting for democracy and human rights, after the country had suspended elections, banned opposition political parties and media and detained Orthodox priests. And all that about the Canadian Parliament giving a standing ovation to a WW2 N@zi was all just an unfortunate misunderstanding, of course. Is it possible that the US and Western Military-Politician-Think Tank-Finance-Intelligence-Security-Media-Reconstruction Industrial Complex has been less than honest with us? Surely not.

  20. Ukraine IMO is beginning to allow some northern areas to cede. They (NATO) believe control of Odessa can be maintained post ceasefire arrangements. I don't think Russia will accept any of these terms.

  23. If US stops arming, training and participating in the Ukraine war against Russia, within days it will be over. This war is not between Russia and Ukraine but Russia and NATO lead by AIPAC US and its associates in UK, France and Germany.

  26. Reality is different! Nothing is working. I thought this war would be like the ones in the last 30 years, in Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, fighting against shepherds and a few soldiers with Soviet-era RPGs and AK-47s, while we have satellites, resources, and all kinds of technology, yet we failed. The withdrawal from Afghanistan was pathetic. And now we, 50 developed and democratic countries, are supporting Ukraine and can't even produce as much as Russia. And we complain that Russia is helped by two states. (Come on, we're 50 developed countries, and there are 3 communist countries: Russia, Iran, and North Korea, let's also say China). And we boast that North Korea is helping them. I'd be ashamed to say something like that. Then we say we're training Ukrainian soldiers to fight. I believe that if we put a Ukrainian soldier from the front line, he has the capacity to train all of NATO! I'm Romanian and have been living in the UK since 2002, and the Romanian government tells us we should come home to fight if needed. To fight to defend what? I'd rather enlist in the British army and fight for the country that takes care of me and my family!

  27. The war aims of Ukraine to retake the Donbass and Crimea no longer seem feasible. This points to the need for a compromise settlement, perhaps with a new border along the current battle line. That seems to be the best Ukraine can hope for. They should change policies and negotiate before they lose more.. .

  45. Putin: Russia's bungling pseudo-president/dictator. Still pursuing a war NATO and Ukraine will win, still turning tens of thousands of young Russian men into 200 and 300 cargo. Putin has no reverse gear. He'll destroy Russia before admitting he was wrong to invade.
