Amazing, imagine not having to pay shareholders making a business more efficient and effective.
Avanti – that runs the services from Scotland to England. Oh and LNER. And Cross Country. And Transpennine and Lumo. Well researched and unbiased article!
Delated.
Good.
Weren’t the Avanti delays largely because of the major works for electrification of the tracks? So can’t really compare?
I travel around the UK by train a fair amount, my personal experience would agree with this. It’s not just delays though. As soon as you transfer from a main line to regional rail in England it’s an absolute nightmare. Carriages packed, toilets broken, seats and tables often filthy. Even if the train is on time, it doesn’t mean it’s a good service.
ScotRail is, by UK standards, really quite good.
Almost like public services should be run as services and not handed to corner-cutting profiteering private firms.

Funnily enough in a peice complaining about how Scotland pays train staff too much – [https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/scotrail-train-drivers-earn-six-figure-salaries-lqhxwgqxz](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/scotrail-train-drivers-earn-six-figure-salaries-lqhxwgqxz) (paywalled)
