Love the idea, all mountainbikers here probably recognise this, Belgium is full of paved roads in the middle of the fields and nature – often to serve a single house.
Just break open all those kilometres of concrete and asphalt roads, tractors don’t need them anyway, pedestrians just need to wear some bottekes, and mountainbikers

“Dat is intussen al gebeurd, zodat we acht are terug kunnen geven aan de natuur. We hebben de vrijgekomen oppervlakte aangeboden aan de landbouwer, die de akkers langs de weg al bewerkt. Alles is netjes opgeruimd en de grond is zelfs al omgeploegd.”
Ah yes, ploughs, famously part of nature. I’m sure a nice natural ecosystem will form on this piece of land thanks to generous application of herbicides.
Don’t get me wrong, assigning this piece of land between two fields to agriculture is just good urban planning. It would be weird to have a small strip of nature between those two fields. But why pretend then that he’s giving anything back to nature? He’s not.

They’re not making this a non-paved road, they’re just selling the road to that farmer so it becomes part of his field. I usually wouldn’t support that as I think it’s very important to keep these small, unpaved roads for pedestrians and cyclists so they can avoid the busy main roads. But in this specific case, this road was completely worthless even to pedestrians and cyclists.
I love this area for gravel riding, even better now!
