This was more of a target dummy for drones than anything else. And not even good at this job.

There wasn’t any doubt.
The cage does ZERO to prevent any actual modern warhead or mine from damaging it, it’s only purpose was to shrug off light grenade drops from drones.
NLAW, Javelins, artillery strikes, probably even grads, RPG (even those strapped to a drone), anything with a HEAT warhead would have absolutely shredded it, and mines would have disabled it like any other tank when they lose their track.
Heck, even a WW2 Panzerschreck (which is still effective through 1m of standoff armor) would have gone through the cage (and may have penetrated the inner depending on what kind of tank is under there).

You are missing the point of this monstrosity! You just “recruited” a bunch of ignorant folks from the hinterlands of Russia by promising them all kinds of goodies if they serve for 6 months in Ukraine. They arrive at the “training site” and learn that getting to 6 months alive and in one piece is an unlikely thing.
You show them this “monstrous vehicle” and give them the feeling “all is well, you are safe”! It’s probably the only way they can get anyone to climb aboard and drive a tank into combat. The fact it’s completely ineffective and just a waste of metal is irrelevant. Besides, once you start pulling T-54 and T-55 tanks out of storage, it no longer matters what you do.
