As the title suggests, around 1 hour before posting this, I set off the smoke detector (photo for specifics, don't know if it will help or not).
I live in a student dorm, one room apartment, which is why the kitchen is close to the smoke detector. I was about to fry some cut onions but left the hotplate at a higher temperature for too long. It started to smoke, so I instantly opened my door and window but the smoke detector went off anyways. I pressed the test button in approximately 10sec which turned off the alarm.
Today is a holiday, so the housemaster is not on call/duty, so I haven't been able to contact him as he uses a work phone.
It's been an hour and there has been no contact from anyone, so I'm assuming none of the authorities were alerted because of this.
Will I still be liable to pay for false alarm or any other form of offense?

As you can switch it off yourself, it very certainly not connected to a central control panel and has no uplink to anyone. So no alarm beside the smoke detector itself was triggered and nobody will show up.
The idea behind them is mostly that you wake up if there is smoke in your apartment before you suffocate due to it.
Most smoke detectors in private homes are not connected to any system. They are just to alert you with a loud noise. If they go off and nothing is wrong just press their button or give them a bop with a stick and they turn off again.
