Estonian PM says some Western countries have already sent their soldiers to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers. “The West should not be afraid to send its troops to Ukraine. Possible strikes on Western soldiers in Ukraine will not automatically trigger Article 5, NATO collective defense charter.”

Yes it will. But, that would be a good thing despite what the spambots tell you.
These fuckers need putting back in their hole.

But we would love ourselves a nice little article 5!
I really don’t want to see our troops become casualties regardless of whether or not it triggers article 5. Train the Ukrainians outside of Ukraine.
From a woman whose own nation can contribute almost nothing to this effort, she sure does talk a lot about what others should do. Training in Ukraine is just plain dumb; it puts our own people’s lives at risk for no tangible gain.
Seriously: Estonia is a little shithole that would collapse into third-world status overnight if it wasn’t part of the EU. Who cares what their PM thinks?
The text of the NATO treaty would not cover attacks on NATO forces stationed in Ukraine. If troops from a NATO country were attacked while in Ukraine, that would not trigger Article 5. But, if they were attacked on their home soil by Russia, that could trigger Article 5, even if they had already actively fought Russia inside Ukraine.
In orher words, if a nation wants to unilaterally become involved on the side of Ukraine against Russia within Ukraine, they would not automatically forfeit their Article 5 protections regarding attacks on their own soil or forces at sea.
