Valdo Calocane’s sentence for killing three people in a knife rampage in Nottingham last summer was not unduly lenient, three senior judges have concluded.

The 32-year-old paranoid schizophrenic was given an indefinite hospital order in January after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, and school caretaker Ian Coates, and the attempted murder of three others.

The Attorney General referred the case to the Court of Appeal arguing that it was unduly lenient and should have included an element of punishment.

But in a decision handed down on Tuesday morning, Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales Baroness Carr, Lord Justice Edis and Mr Justice Garnham rejected the application.

It means Calocane’s sentence will not be changed.

  1. Absolute bravery and dignity by the families. How much more of this are the British people expected to tolerate in the name of diversity?

  2. but he got indefinetly ordered to be in hospital. is that very lenient? he probably will be confined to that forever.

  3. It is a National State of Emergency that so many of them are able to roam our streets. It is a matter of National Security, due to the threats that they pose to the innocent.

  4. Having been failed by the justice system, it is now up to the families to enact the justice they need to do.

  5. He shouldn't have even been in the country and there were multiple chances to deport him. Instead, the rights of foreigners to illegally breach our borders to murder us is not as important as our own right to life, according to the state.

So we must get together and protect ourselves. The government wants nothing to do with protecting us, and therefore nobody except for ourselves can protect us.

  6. He planned this. It was premeditated. He wouldn’t have been able to plan if he was so mentally unwell. Absolutely disgraceful. What is going on with our justice system?

  7. British justice system is broken. Officers are incentivised to give life destroying convictions to petty arguments between people yet the African and Muslim gangs are running London with horrific crimes do not get penalised. It's disgusting.

  8. The underlying culprits are failing police and NHS services, both cash strapped after years of cuts. As for the perpetrator, he probably doesn't know what planet he's on let alone what he's done.
