We sometimes do it too, although not so much in the cities/bigger towns and not so much these days (I think?). Back then you could see them in front of stores in some villages, these days you might see one outside the living room.
These days parents drive their children in tanks to school at ten +.
The only time this has been even close to being an issue in my experience is when a lynx came dangerously close to my sleeping baby cousin but they’re super shy (lynx, not my cousins) so as soon as we opened the door it scampered off and all was well.
