it’s officially zelinsky’s last day as Ukraine’s president but he won’t be quitting or holding elections the Constitution says his term ends today 20th of May 2024 but it also says elections can’t happen while the country is under martial law which it has been since Russia’s fullscale Invasion 2 years ago zinski said in November that it was not the right time to hold elections a fifth of Ukraine’s territory is under Russian occupation and millions of citizens fled abroad s 7% of ukrainians PED in February said zalinski should stay until the war ends

  13. To those that will come moaning about this calling it the 'end of democracy', no democracy under martial law whilst being invaded by a fascist aggressor will hold elections under such circumstances. Especially since the constitution covers that exact scenario.

  24. You're not reporting things as they are, even Ukrainian remains of opposition groups state that Zelensky was supposed to get an approvals from the Constitution Court. The Constitution of Ukraine prohibits voting for deputies of the Verkhovna Rada in the event of martial law, but at the same time, the text of the main law does not contain a clause for a similar ban in relation to presidential elections.

  30. The challenge of organizing fair and open elections when missiles are raining down on Ukraine’s people, when so many have had to flee, is not realistic at this time. Can you just see Russia dropping missiles on election sites? You can’t expose the civilian population to such a risk!!
